Butlers Chocolate Café, Liffey Street in Dublin

The coffee is delicious, the chocolate is amazing, and they even give you a free chocolate... I've had a hard time finding quality coffee in Dublin, even though it's expensive everywhere, but here you get quality coffee at a good price. It was recommended to us by the guide on a tour we took, and it was definitely a great find.

It might be the best hot chocolate in Dublin (according to the internet) but it’s nothing special. If you’re looking for real hot chocolate like they do at Angelina’s in Paris then you’ve come to the wrong place. They let me choose a little chocolate to with it which was nice. I had salted caramel n it was lovely. The price was €4.5. The problem was because they don’t use enough chocolate. I watched the lady make it. The melted chocolate is kept hot in a slow cooker, they ladle some out into a jug and then add milk. There was only about an inch of chocolate in the bottom of the jug, the rest was topped up with milk

Butlers is everywhere in Dublin so we decided to drop in for a hot chocolate. It’s cool that they offer multiple sizes and throw in a free complimentary chocolate with your drink, which was a nice little perk. The hot chocolate was fine, just a bit average for a place centered around chocolate. The shop itself was crammed, a bit chaotic, and didn't look overly clean. Finding a place to sit was a bit of a mission. Main downside was the service. The staff member who served us was pretty off-putting and acted super annoyed whenever we asked a quick question. Totally get people have bad days, but it definitely killed the atmosphere for us. Okay for a quick takeaway hot chocolate, but the seating and customer service could be a lot better.

The desserts are delicious, only the seating area is cramped and small.

It has the best espresso in Dublin

Butlers is one of those places that feels deeply connected to Dublin. Founded in Ireland in 1932, the brand has become one of the country’s best known premium chocolatiers, and visiting one of their cafés almost feels like a small Dublin tradition at this point. What makes this location special is the combination of elegant chocolate boutique and relaxed café atmosphere. Inside you’ll find beautifully packaged truffles, pralines and gift boxes alongside good coffee, pastries and their famous hot chocolate. The smell alone, fresh coffee mixed with chocolate, already makes the place worth stepping into. The hot chocolate is genuinely excellent, rich and creamy without becoming too sweet, and every drink comes with one of their signature chocolates, which is such a simple but memorable touch. Perfect place for a short coffee break, especially on a rainy Dublin day, but also a great stop if you want to bring home authentic Irish chocolate instead of typical tourist souvenirs.
