Downey's Bar in Dublin

Typical local bar, nothing glitzy but good honest drinking hole.

They even keep your messages in the fridge 😊

We loved our time at Downey's Bar. Its a great local's place. We went twice and had great craic and fun and meaningful conversations each time. Some of our best memories of the two week trip were at Downey's. The Guinness is great and its only a fiver if you pay cash. Tourists often try to find a real or authentic experience. "Authentic" means something different to everyone....but I think you'll find it at Downey's. A great evening pub crawl could start at John Kavanagh's (Gravediggers) and then proceed to Hedigans (The Brian Boru), The Bohemian (The Boh) and then end at Downey's. There is a bus stop right there to take you back downtown for 2 Euro. Do yourself a favor, leave the tourist trail, and go this pub that's not in any guidebook or anyone's list.

Visited twice. Both times the atmosphere was fun and welcoming. Thank you to Vera who serenaded us with Rambling Road and to Margaret who made sure we got to the bus. Tell them I say hi and thank you!

Great atmosphere, very authentic. And the price of the pint (5€) hasn't changed! Our first Guinness back in Ireland 😊
