This was my second stay at Clontarf Castle Hotel, and once again, I was thoroughly impressed. Even after several years, the hotel remains in excellent condition – clearly well maintained.
The rooms are spacious, very comfortable, and beautifully decorated, blending modern amenities with the unique charm of the historic building.
Breakfast was excellent, with a wide variety of fresh, high-quality options. The bar was a real highlight, offering 13 different draught beers, delicious food, and genuinely friendly service.
Overall, I felt I got great value for my money. A unique and stylish hotel that combines character, comfort, and great hospitality – I’ll definitely return.

This was one of the most unique and rewarding as well as educational and pampered hotel experiences for us to date! The Clontarf Castle Hotel Dublin is an exceptional and extraordinary luxury/boutique hotel, bringing the (very) old world into the contemporary in so, so many ways. This hotel has taken a real ancient historied structure and esthetically beautifully built accommodation into a one-of-a-kind exceptional destination. It is fascinating that there has been a castle on the site since 1172 – it brings you a strong sense of its historic magnificence with a latent amount of historic eeriness and modern luxury. This is all thanks to it being re-opened as a four-star hotel in 1997. Having the opportunity to regularly stay over many accommodations across and occasionally outside the country, not a professional hotel reviewer by any means, and not a regular business traveler - but as a primarily pleasure and needs wanderer, I have developed as what I believe is my concise method for scoring the worthiness of each hotel visited. My criteria are as follows and the results are: 1) ease of access to and from public or private ground transportation [Score: 4.5]; 2) convenient and safe parking [Score : 4.5]; 3) access, accuracy and convenience of check in and check out [Score: 5.0]; 4) atmosphere, ambience, public facilities, lounging areas and access to an office center and Wi-Fi access [Score: 5.0]; 5) overall customer service - including but not limited to Hospitality, Support Services, Concierge knowledge, communication, attitude and demeanor of staff [Score: 5.0]; 6) quality, cleanliness, value, convenience, amenities (i.e., ironing board, iron, TV, charging access, phone, et.al.) and comfort of rooms, beds, room safe and/or valet services [Score: 4.5]; Taking all the aforementioned categories in a scale of 1 star to 5 stars with 1 being the worst and 5 being the best a hotel can be! This hotel rates an astounding: 5.5. Most positive points at this hotel are: almost everything, from exceptional fine dining at the Fahrenheit Restaurant or lounging at the Indigo or my fave, the classy modern Knights Bar, to the subdued historic elegance throughout the property. And my most negative points found here are: I really cannot think of anything. My price to value to overall assessment is exceptional. When staying in Dublin, this is a must-do experience and stay. Kudos to the staff and management for the exceptional job done in every facet of hospitality – allowing us to explore the past, enjoy the contemporary while feeling at home away from home.

I’ve stayed at Clontarf Castle Hotel twice, with an obvious desire to go back and perhaps with my boyfriend this time. I’ve visited with friends and also with family and it’s been lovely both visits.
The more recent visit was with my mother, we were celebrating her birthday, so I wanted something a little special on her arrival. I requested a bouquet of flowers for her. We had an amazing time here. In my previous visit, I saw how easily I could get to and from Dublin city and airport staying at Clontarf. The feeling here is relaxed and indulgent without too much fuss. The staff are warm and welcoming and from different parts of the world as well. When you stay here you can discover the history of the castle, the historic Battle of Clontarf, Brian Boru, and so much more. They also have a tea service available, I meant to do that at one point but they do book up, if this is of any interest to you, I’d recommend a reservation.
I absolutely love the decor here but I love purple and they really play it up in parts of the hotel, I love it! All in all, this an exceptional experience- seriously go to the breakfast buffet, lots of options. At the buffet, some of what you can expect to see are all the options of Muesli, granola, yogurt, honey, and fresh fruit. For more hearty sustenance, there’s also sausages, rashers (Irish bacon), black and white pudding, eggs, fresh orange juice, toasts, jams, muffins, pastries, and more. You’ll start your day well fueled indeed.

If you’re looking for a unique blend of history and modern luxury, Clontarf Castle Hotel is the perfect choice for your stay in Dublin! This stunning 4-star hotel, steeped in rich history from the epic Battle of Clontarf and the Knights Templar, offers an unforgettable experience that beautifully marries the past with contemporary comfort.
From the moment we arrived, the seamless check-in process set a positive tone for our stay. Our room was ready, allowing us to unwind immediately. The accommodations were nothing short of fantastic, featuring a pillow-top mattress and soft linen sheets that made for a restful night’s sleep after a long day of travel.
We started our adventure with a light bite in the Knight’s Bar, a charming space with polished wood floors, open fireplaces, and an ornate pitched ceiling that exudes character. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, making it the perfect spot to relax before heading out to explore. Just a short 5-minute walk away, we enjoyed a lovely stroll along the Dublin Bay seafront, soaking in the beautiful views and sipping coffee in the quaint village nearby.
One of the highlights of our stay was the artisan breakfast at the castle. The buffet was a feast for the senses, offering a delightful array of options from muesli and fresh fruit to hearty Irish breakfast staples like sausages, rashers, and black and white pudding. Trust me, you won’t want to miss this!
The hotel’s decor is simply stunning, with a lovely emphasis on purple accents that I absolutely adored. It added a touch of elegance and warmth to the overall ambiance. The staff were incredibly warm and welcoming, hailing from various parts of the world, which added to the inclusive and friendly atmosphere.
Clontarf Castle is conveniently located just a 15-minute drive from Dublin Airport and a quick trip to the city center, making it an ideal base for exploring. Plus, the hotel offers a fascinating glimpse into its history, with stories of the Battle of Clontarf and Brian Boru waiting to be discovered.
Overall, my experience at Clontarf Castle Hotel was exceptional. With its perfect blend of history, comfort, and top-notch dining options—including a Michelin-starred chef and a gastropub serving a mean prime rib burger—this hotel truly has it all. I can’t recommend it enough for anyone looking to indulge in a little luxury while exploring Dublin!

The place isn't everything, you don't really feel welcomed, the staff is a bit of a jerk, except at breakfast, but for the bar, no, the staff really leaves something to be desired.
The room then, for the price of an exclusive, is nothing exclusive. Not up to expectations, and don't trust the photos. Otherwise the hotel itself is pretty, but once again, the location is not everything.
So I don't recommend it.
