I had their baked potato with mixed peppers, spring onions and cheese and it was delicious! I had it for takeaway but it was still very hot afterwards. It’s definitely a good eat, especially if you don’t have too much time. The only reason I dropped a star is because I couldn’t see many vegetarian options but the ones they did have were really good. I would still recommend this place!

A planned lunch location on a tour bus. Food was enjoyable, chicken dish with corn flakes, celery, mayonnaise was fresh and good blend of textures. Wife had chicken and mushroom pie. Crust was flaky, hot and memorable.

**To the Management Team at Poppies Cafe (The Square, Enniskerry, Co. Wicklow):**
**Great Quality, But Shortages Ruin the Value: A Plea to Restore the Traditional Irish Breakfast**
The kitchen staff at Poppies Cafe clearly knows how to cook. The quality of the food is genuinely good, and everything on my plate was executed to perfection. However, that high quality is completely overshadowed because the real problem here is the shortages. The value proposition is completely disconnected from what constitutes a genuine "Full Breakfast."
### The Current Reality: Quality Marred by Shortages
Based on my recent visit, your "Full Breakfast" costs **€13.00** and consists of just:
* 2 slices of bacon
* 2 sausages
* 2 eggs
* 2 slices of toast
While the cooking is excellent, this plate feels incredibly sparse and basic. The issue isn't the taste; it's the sheer lack of food. It is completely missing the essential additions that make a breakfast satisfying and traditional: **beans, mushrooms, tomatoes, and a potato cake.** Furthermore, the beverage pricing feels out of touch. Charging **€2.90** for a small, standard brand orange juice—when high-quality juice can be purchased wholesale for less than €2 a litre—is hard to justify. By the time you add that small juice and a standard coffee to this basic €13 plate, the customer is paying approaching **€20** for a meal that still leaves them wanting more.
### From Hospitality to Greed
It feels as though the post-Celtic Tiger era transformed our hospitality industry into one driven by pure greed rather than service. There was a time when the "Traditional Irish Experience" was defined by generosity and affordability—it was a family-friendly staple where hearty portions, tea, coffee, and even orange juice were naturally included. Today's "nickel-and-diming" approach creates a transactional, impersonal feel that devalues the customer experience and deters local families from returning to places like The Square.
### The Solution: The €14.95 Standard
To fix these shortages, restore value, and build a loyal customer base in Enniskerry, Poppies Cafe needs to return to its core values with a fair, inclusive model. I highly recommend introducing a standard **€14.95 price point for a true "Traditional Full Breakfast."** At this price, the meal should be an all-inclusive, high-value experience that features:
* **The Base:** 2 Bacon, 2 Sausages, 2 Eggs, and 2 Toast.
* **The Essential Additions:** Beans, mushrooms, tomatoes, and a potato cake.
* **The Hot Beverage:** Tea or coffee included as standard.
### The "Jug of Juice" Upgrade
Instead of charging €2.90 for a tiny glass, you should look at how to increase consumer amounts while protecting your bottom line. You have a great opportunity to offer a chilled **jug of orange juice** for the table. Because quality juice is so inexpensive, you can provide a generous jug at the exact same profit margin as that single small glass. This one change would drastically improve the customer's perception of value and elevate your entire hospitality experience.
### Final Thoughts
To the management: You have the skill in the kitchen to prepare great food—now you need the vision to fix the shortages and pair your quality cooking with the generosity that customers expect. Moving away from the current piecemeal model and returning to a €14.95 inclusive, traditional Irish experience is the smartest way to improve your bottom line, build real customer loyalty, and ensure the long-term success of Poppies Cafe.
