I’ve been going to Al Vesuvio for years, and it used to be one of my favourite Italian restaurants in Dublin (I’m Italian). Unfortunately, the quality has consistently declined recently, and my most recent visit was very disappointing. The pasta arrived lukewarm, the tiramisù was mostly cream, the cappuccino wasn’t good, and the portions felt very small for the price. It’s a real pity, because the venue and atmosphere are genuinely lovely. But after this experience, I wouldn't recommend it.

I ate here on 4th November. The restaurant is hidden away and has a nice ambiance. I ordered the margarita pizza and it was delicious, as was the tiramisu for dessert. Worth checking out if you’re in the area. The staff were very attentive.

The service was good and the style of the restaurant is pleasant, but the pizzas were poor. Particularly the four cheese, which was basically just a margarita, with lots of tomato sauce, mozzarella, and one or two small pieces of other cheeses. It looked the same as the porchetta pizza, but without the meat. Homemade chocolate cake was nice.

Great little place in an old wine cellar. Food was excellent (best pizza we have ever had) and the service was just as attentive as necessary. Staff were welcoming and friendly even just a bit over an hour and half before closing.

My favourite spot in town. The food is top quality and authentic, some of the tastiest in Dublin. The staff are welcoming, attentive, and generous, even once giving my friends and I a complimentary limoncello shot after our meal, something I haven’t been offered in any other restaurant in Ireland. I’d highly recommend this spot for dates or family occasions, every time I visit is a uniquely special experience.

Old Music Shop

02/02/2026: We had a lovely enjoyable afternoon tea here where the food, tea and coffee were delicious. The favourite was the toasted fruit cake. The selection of savoury and sweet were all tasty. The staff were very friendly and attentive.
08/01/2026: We came for afternoon tea with my 8 years old daughter as her very first experience of this tradition. Until a certain point, everything was lovely: a calm atmosphere, beautiful table setting, and the feeling of taking part in a special ritual together. However, the moment that changed everything was when she noticed that other tables had plenty of fresh strawberries on their afternoon tea stands, while ours had none at all. For an adult, this might seem like a small detail. But for a child — and especially when it’s her first introduction to afternoon tea — it matters a lot. Her immediate question was simple and heartbreaking: “Why do they have it and we don’t?” From that moment, my attitude towards the place shifted. Afternoon tea is about care, attention, and making every guest feel equally valued. When that balance is broken — particularly for a child — the experience loses its magic. Perhaps it was a mistake or an ingredient shortage, but no explanation was offered, and no alternative was suggested. Sometimes a small gesture or a few words can change everything — but that didn’t happen here. The venue itself is charming and has great potential, but for us this visit ended with disappointment. When it comes to a child’s first impression, details are not minor — they are the foundation of trust and memory.
