We came on a Saturday night: no reservations and other restaurants non-accommodating. Though they were full, they were still able to get us in. We had steamed mussels, the burger, a steak and halibut bites - all delicious!! Chips were the best we had in days (when in Ireland, we do get picky about our chips). Also had a Baby Guinness and an Irish Coffee! Bartender was spot-on! Great find and we would go back again.

The Oar Bar

06/06/2025: First time here. You can book online which is really handy and then revise if needs be. They serve food in the bar, at street level, and also upstairs which is accessed around the corner and up the hill a teeny bit (literally 10 steps) from the main entrance. There's no public access from the bar. We booked upstairs that evening as we heard it had beautiful views across the river and yachts. The view is the first thing to hit you. It was a bright evening but not sunny and it was perfect to take in those views. Service was good. We ordered promptly once all our party of 7 arrived. Good range of choices in starters, mains, sides and desserts. Food arrived quickly enough. I had the chicken supreme which was a decent sized meal with more on the plate than I could eat, especially as I was eyeing up a dessert. It was really lovely, very tasty. Possibly someone with a larger appetite could opt for a starter or else add a side. 4 people had hake and also loved it. We had one coeliac with us, who had eaten there previously and she also opted for the hake which the chef was able to adapt for her GF needs. Again she was more than delighted with her meal. We had a few desserts between us and they all went down well. I think we paid 42 euros each including tips and individual drinks. Their wine menu on the night was depleted and they were down 3 different bottles from their white wine selection, which was disappointing for some of our party. They did allow us to taste one of the other offerings and some of us opted for that subsequently so kudos for that. All in all a very successful evening. It's not huge upstairs but there was a nice buzz and atmosphere. Looking forward to eating there again soon!
03/06/2025: Very disappointed with service and food . We waited an hour and 40 mins for main course . Look it was busy but I was with my elderly parents . No apology or explanation for not having received mains . Food was only ok my hake was tasteless and my husband got the lamb which was pale and not what he expected . The chicken wings starter was devine I will say . Just we were so looking forward to the meal and it was disappointing.
