Arundels By The Pier in Ahakista

Fantastic mussels and incredible views. Staff were warm and welcoming, all the food was delicious and great drinks selection. Thoroughly recommended!

I think this is my third review of Arundel's By the Pier and it just gets better every time. The weather was fantastic so we had some pre lunch drinks on the benches across the road looking out on an amazing view of Dunmanus Bay. The fishing boats were coming and going from the pier. People were swimming in the sea before having their lunch. The restaurant was really busy with visitors, locals and a large group of cyclists. The welcome by staff was so good and the service was excellent. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The reataurant was really busy inside downstairs, upstairs, outside and across the road but the standard of food and the service was exceptional. This time I was with my girlfriend and we had the most delicious dish of calamari with some special spices on the outside. So tender and melt in your mouth flavours. The light dipping sauce had so many levels of taste!!! WOW. Sweet, sour, spicy, heat, herb!! I would love to know the recipe? We also shared the open crab platter served on a really good homemade brown bread with a crunchy crust on it. A dark colour, malty flavour and perfect texture. Not too crumbly. The serving of crab meat was extremely generous and was perfectly dressed. Not too much interference with the magnificent crab meat flavour. It had large chunks of crab meat interspersed with the smaller crab meat pieces which made it a real seafood treat. A serving of salad/home made coleslaw on the side made the overall meal very satisfying. 10 out of 10. The value for money was incredibly. In my opinion both dishes would beat many evening dinner servings in highly rated restaurants in Baltimore, Bantry or Skibbereen.

I’ve been coming here for years and have honestly never had a bad experience. The food is consistently excellent, the service is always warm and welcoming, and there’s such a lovely atmosphere every time. The burgers are fantastic, the mussels are some of the best I’ve had, and the fish and chips are always spot on. You can really taste the quality of the local ingredients, and it’s great to see them supporting local producers. The staff are always friendly and happy to have a chat, which makes the whole experience feel personal and relaxed. It’s one of my favourite places in West Cork, and I’d happily recommend it to anyone looking for great food, great service, and a genuine local welcome.

We had dinner at Arundels in the evening. Seating inside the bar is limited, so be sure to reserve a table if the weather is bad! When the weather is nice, there are plenty of seats outside. If you haven't already, be sure to ask the staff about the daily specials. We had the much-praised mussels and black pudding ciabatta, a daily recommendation. Both were fantastic, and with a Guinness, it was a perfect evening.

Amazing food, beer and people. The view and flavours made me feel great and inspired me and my friends for many good things. A must for the Atlantic wild way explorers in the Bantry region.
