Bastible in Dublin

We recently returned to Bastible for the first time since before the pandemic, choosing it as the spot to celebrate our anniversary. Unfortunately, we left feeling more underwhelmed than impressed. To be clear, the food was good and well-executed, with no dishes we actively disliked. But for a restaurant with such a strong reputation (and a price tag to match), the overall experience fell short in several ways. The biggest letdown was the service. Having worked in hospitality myself and dined at multiple Michelin-starred restaurants both in Dublin and abroad, I had certain expectations. Not for extravagance, but for attentiveness and care. Sadly, that wasn’t the case. Staff seemed disengaged, with minimal explanation or enthusiasm when presenting dishes. The wine pairings were introduced with little context or storytelling, and the sommelier in particular seemed rushed, as if he were trying to get through the evening’s service rather than elevate it. For a bill that came to over €400 for the tasting menu and wine pairing, we expected more than “fine.” There was no sense of occasion, no added effort to make the evening feel even remotely special. We’ve spent far less in unstarred restaurants and left feeling far more satisfied and cared for. In short: if you’re visiting Bastible for the food alone, you’ll likely enjoy it. But if you’re hoping for a full dining experience, one that justifies the price and pedigree, you may want to look elsewhere.

Just be aware when booking, if a high table comes up, it is more like a bar table, and seats are stools with no backs. It's not v comfortable. Pity. All the food scrumptious.

Pall the dishes were intelligently crafted and created but what I remember with pleasure and amazement from this experience is the incredible home made butter before the amouse bouche - well, it’s Ireland and had to be the best in the world. Service was prompt and courteous, was seated fast and had a great experience generally even though I booked almost last minute! Thank you

A very good experience overall. Simple cuisine but to my taste lives up to its star in a relaxed setting. My wife preferred the high table or I would have preferred the bench ;-) I would have liked the lamb to be in larger quantities. An innovative wine pairing for me with international wines. A pleasant evening.

Excellent. Unbelievable quality for the price, easily would pay 2x in NY or Chicago. Service, wine, and food were excellent, very comfortable atmosphere. Best meal I've had in Dublin.

Bastible is a true gem in a lively part of Dublin. The food was outstanding — perfectly seasoned, full of bold flavours, and showcasing real culinary skill. The flavour combinations were unusual in the best possible way, each dish a surprise that worked beautifully. The mushroom custard was an absolute stunner, and the horseradish foam with caviar and tartare was a brilliant combination that worked incredibly well. The set menu was offered at a very fair price point, making the experience all the more impressive. The wine list, though small, was well curated, and the sommelier was helpful and attentive. The staff overall were friendly and the atmosphere relaxed and welcoming. The only downside was the double seating, which made the evening feel a bit rushed — we would have loved just a little more time to savour the experience. Still, an excellent restaurant we’d return to in a heartbeat.

Set tasting menu that was excellent.

I’d find this one a bit hard to articulate on my Michelin star restaurant travels. Some of the dishes and flavours were absolutely unbelievable and up there with some of the best I have tried. Unfortunately there was a lack of substance to some of the dishes offered on the plate and made it difficult to appreciate the fantastic cooking. The portions were so small I was still hungry after the meal. It overall was a longwinded unsatisfying meal.

La comida era ejemplar con los sabores simplemente fantásticos. Su conocimiento de los vinos también ejemplar y los vinos aportados complementaban perfectamente la comida, algo que no siempre se consigue, en mi limitada experiencia. Un lugar fantástico para ir si visita Dublín durante unos días.
