Bastion Kitchen in Athlone

A lovely little restaurant! Everything is freshly prepared with care, which is beautifully evident on the plate. The quality, price, and service are all excellent.

We had such a lovely meal here!! We had our two babies with us along with their prams which is usually a big inconvenience for restaurants and cafes (understandable but babies got to be transported somehow!) here they were so accommodating and kind which really meant so much. The food and staff were incredible, we would absolutely recommend thank you!

I had done a lot of research before our Ireland trip, but this was a spur-of-the-moment decision when my sister and I decided at the last minute to stop in Athlone so she could have a Guinness at Sean's Bar. Realizing we were both in need of sustenance, we asked the barkeep for a recommendation (since Sean's does not serve food) and he recommended Bastion. It turned out to be a great suggestion, as the falafel and halloumi sandwich was just the ticket -- both hearty and healthy! There's not much seating (if any?) inside the cafe, but there are a few tables on the sidewalk. There's also a small unisex customer toilet in the back of the restaurant that was much appreciated. Oh and service was quite smiley and friendly too even during the busy Friday lunchtime rush with a line out the door.

Great place for a healthy breakfast and lunch with organic produce. They have also interesting coffee and tea options. The place is small, so it is better to be early in case you want to have lunch.

Couldn't have picked a better breakfast stop on the way to Galway! We both had the smashed avocado toast with poached eggs and sausage, washed down with lattes (one regular, one oat—because balance 😂). Everything was fresh, delicious, and disappeared suspiciously quickly. The staff were cheerful, friendly, and made us feel really welcome from the moment we walked in. If you're passing through Athlone and need breakfast that'll make you seriously consider ordering a second round, Bastion Kitchen is well worth the stop. We'll definitely be back!

I sat on a stool facing the window view of the street with an outdoor dining area. The smashed avocado toast was satisfying to my eyes and appetite. It gave me the energy to walk in the neighborhood and beyond. Bastion Street has colorful buildings and shops. I continued to walk to Shannon Banks Nature Trail. Vhuntermassage LLC

Food was outstanding, I have celiac disease food was delicious and gluten free. My son loved the food and the amazing chocolate brownie, he is picky and he said it was the best he has ever had.
