The food was absolutely unbelievable. Great portions and highest quality. Also, friendly and courteous staff and an amazing atmosphere. A ton of history and a local landmark.

Amazing food, gorgeous scenery, decor is really period and interesting but generally underwhelming for an establishment with such a well known name, atmosphere felt nearly like a wake house

Stopped here as staying the night in our camper. Had a pint before tea in the pub which had a great vibe and warm fire, then had tea at the restaurant which was unreal, some of the best pub food I’ve ever had and great service, I don’t usually leave reviews but this was a 10/10.

If you’re anywhere near Donegal, do not pass this pub—there’s a reason locals say it’s unlucky to pass.
From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere is exactly what you hope for in a traditional Irish pub. The interior has that classic old-world charm—warm wood, cozy spaces, and the kind of authentic character you simply can’t manufacture. It feels like the heart of the community. There was even a birthday celebration happening while we were there, and everyone—from locals to visitors—was clearly having a wonderful time.
The drinks were excellent. The pint of Guinness was perfectly poured, smooth and creamy just as it should be. I also had a whiskey sour, and it was fantastic—beautifully balanced with a thick, velvety foam on top that made it feel like a proper craft cocktail.
The food was truly exceptional. We had the fish and chips, which were perfectly crispy and fresh, and the pappardelle mushroom pasta, which was rich, comforting, and full of flavor. It felt like elevated pub food made with real care and quality ingredients.
Dessert absolutely sealed the experience. The fresh, homegrown apple pie with ice cream was incredible—warm, comforting, and clearly homemade. One of those desserts you remember long after the meal.
Although we sat inside the pub, the greenhouse dining area looked beautiful—bright, open, and surrounded by stunning views of the Donegal landscape. It would be a lovely place to sit on a sunny day.
Before leaving, we even stopped by The Byre and grabbed a white mocha, which was another treat and a perfect way to end the visit.
The service throughout was kind, welcoming, and genuinely friendly, which made the whole experience feel even more special.
Between the incredible food, perfectly poured drinks, beautiful setting, and lively atmosphere, this was one of the best Irish pub experiences you could hope for.
We would absolutely go back—and next time, we definitely won’t risk the bad luck of passing it by.

This is probably the best pub food I have ever eaten. The chips stand out as the best I have had...ever. My family and I stopped in for a late lunch and all the food was excellent. The service was good and the facilities were good. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a great, casual place to eat.
