Passed The Boathouse Bistro on a very stormy October afternoon. The restaurant is located in the grounds of Dromquinna Manor, right by the sea at a small harbor onto Kenmare Bay. The views are great, out across the bay and over along the Beara peninsula. The food was excellent, really good. My wife had a pot of prawns and chorizo and described it as a "pot of joy" š Soup and Chowder were great, I had pulled pork squares which were delicious. Will be back!!! Just off the Ring of Kerry so very handy location. ā

We enjoyed a delicious evening meal here last Thursday. The Black sole was fabulous and the spicy Cauliflower main course option was also lovely, accompanied by fresh salad in a gorgeous sweet/sour dressing. A really stunning setting looking out over the bay. Well done to all the team. Itās our third visitā¦. And we will be back.

We had a drink outside on one of our few sunny days during Summer. I had a sparkling water and my partner asked for tea. He was told the water was not hot enough to make it? He had a water also. The young girl was pulling a pint behind the bar and was putting a three quarter pint filled glass on a tray for a customer. She didn't know how to serve a pint properly. My partner told her how to do it as he was waiting for the water. The couple next to us with children were served burnt pizza and the mother was taking the black bits off the pizza. Unbelievable as John has very high standards I know. I'm giving it three stars simply because I never saw it this bad before.

The Boathouse deserves 10 stars in every category.
Located in one of the most stunning and peaceful surroundings in Ireland.
Every time I visit the quality of the food, service and drinks never fails. This time we had a selection of starters - potted crab, prawns pil pil, burrata and the best for last Bang Bang Broccoli. Do not leave here without trying.
Fabulous visit as always. Can't wait to get back again

We enjoyed a most enjoyable meal on the evening of Sunday 25th of August 2024, and the food was absolutely top class. The setting, looking out on Kenmare Bay is most attractive, especially on the late summer evening we observed it. As one might expect in a high quality restaurant, the prices reflected the high quality of the food. The service standards and the overall experience were highly satisfactory, we departed replete and contented after a lovely leisurely family meal with my sons home from abroad, it was the final treat of their short holiday. Only one criticism can be made. The early part of our meal was overshadowed somewhat by two extremely noisy, raucous customers, who, we were informed by one of their party, had been over indulging all day before entering the restaurant in the company of their families. Their loud, off key constant repetition of a sea shanty chorus at full volume from the gallery in their slurred American accents, was not the most edifying of accompaniments to a 5 star hors d'oevres. Thankfully they left before our main course, so unsteady on their legs that negotiating the stairs presented considerable difficulty, and some considerable danger to themselves . I did wonder how they were admitted in the first place, since this degree of inebriation could not have been reached over the course of a meal. I felt the staff were overly passive in dealing with these patrons, which I acknowledge was a difficult situation. However, it fell to one of the relatives to go around apologising to all the other customers, which was a further source of embarrassment. We were surprised to observe the two "vocalists" of this troupe being served a further two pints at the bar as they awaited their transportation. Neither of these individuals would have been served more liquor in most well run pubs. The restaurants staff were clearly unused to dealing with this type of behaviour, which is understandable given the quality of the venue. Nevertheless, an overly passive and indulgent approach in these circumstances, is unfair to other customers. That this was an isolated incident I have no doubt, but the diffidence and uncertainty displayed by staff in handling it was disappointing to be honest. It would not deter me from returning, but protocols around unacceptable behaviour may be something that the Boat House Bistro management should tighten up on to minimise reputational damage in future.

Enchanting location, excellent quality and well presented food, very fresh fish, prices in line with the Irish average (but correct portions). Delicious desserts. The service was polite and fast.
