Best pub I have ever been to. The irish folk music played by the musicians is always amazing, as well as the atmosphere upstairs. You can enjoy great pints while listening to irish folk and solo singers, supported by the whole pub. If you are in Galway this pub is a must.

Heard a bohhrán solo here that was one of the best drum solos I've ever heard -- captivated the whole room and you could have heard a pin drop in the quiet parts. 1000% recommend.

One of the best experiences I had while travelling solo. The live trad music that was played in the afternoon was amazing, the singers were very nice, talking with people. It felt more like talking with some friends then a "concert". The pints were fine, and not expensive. The atmosphere was spectacular. If you are ever in Galway and have a few hours to spare, I whole heartly recommend to visit this pub (during the hours where they also have live music).

Just go upstairs and enjoy the authenticity of Irish culture. Probably my favorite pub experience I’ve had. Just make sure you’re quiet and respectful.

04/04/2026: My friend and I stopped at Monroe's for lunch. We were blessed with the appearance of Remi, a friendly giant, who patrols the pub & check on guests (and their plates sometimes haha). The pub itself has a good atmosphere and very interesting signed posters on the ceiling! It was busy, but not chaotic busy. The staff was super friendly. We both ordered beef burgers, which were really really tasty, and of course, a pint of Guinness. We have also noticed the place hosts many gigs and other events, which is awesome!
