We’re a group of friends from Barcelona who came to visit another friend living here in Ireland. She surprised us with a dinner at what she called one of the best restaurants in County Cork. And let me say, it was a very pleasant surprise because we had an amazing time.
The restaurant is a bit outside the city, in a peaceful and idyllic setting, yet still close enough – we got there in just 20 minutes. The food? Absolutely spectacular. I’ve never had a sole that size before, and it was cooked to perfection, so tender it felt like a sponge. We also had hake, which was delicious. The side plates of vegetables were spot-on, cooked to the perfect texture. Everything was just flawless – too perfect, even. It’s been a long time since I’ve had such authentic fish for dinner.
We also tried oysters, which were heavenly, and chicken pâté with avocado and crab. Everything was a solid 10, truly. I don’t usually write reviews, but I felt like I had to this time because it was genuinely one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had.
The atmosphere was also authentically Irish, and the owners – I don’t even know what to say – were incredibly friendly and attentive. They felt like real friends, making you feel at home, as if you’d known them forever.
When we return to Ireland, we will absolutely be coming back.
A most memorable Friday night
