Funké - Afro Caribbean Restaurant in Sligo

OMG, we have just finished our main course, everyone in our party of 7 is raving about the food. Unique food, incredible flavours, a perfect culinary experience. Get in here folks, and it’s BYOB - bonus!!

Amazing service, fast polite, friendly. Really beautiful food. Senses and tummy felt nourished. Food nicely balanced in terms of flavours, textures and nutrition. Treat yourself. I can't reccommend Funke highly enough.

This place had some of the best food that we have had all throughout our road trip around Ireland!! We came back a second time during our 3 day visit in Sligo just because it was that good! Service: So kind and very attentive. Every staff member that served us both times were so sweet and informative, especially as we asked questions since we previously never had West African cuisine. Atmosphere: Spacey and well decorated! The natural light from the window was lovely too! Food: I can go on for ages about their food here! Some of the best food I’ve ever had ngl. The first time around we ordered the wings, jerk chicken with jollof rice, plantains, and the puff puffs for dessert. Everything. Was. Delicious. The wings were perfectly fried and tossed in an amazingly spiced dry rub. The plantains were the perfect mix of sweet and savory. The jerk chicken was so flavorful and juicy. The jollof rice was also seasoned so well and cooked to fluffy perfection. The puff puffs were like fried donut holes with caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream. So yummy and not too sweet. The second time we went back, we got the wings again but I tried the beef suya with flava chips. It was equally as delicious as everything else we had. Tender, not too chewy and seasoned to perfection. Fries had such a nice crisp and seasoning to it as well. Overall, this is a must try in Sligo! Please, please come eat here! I trust that you won’t regret it no matter what you order.

Very tasty food! Give the Jollof Rice with Jerk Chicken was delicious. The Puff Puff for dessert was seriously tasty too 🤤 Great service and lovely atmosphere. O se!

Just had a really amazing experience here! One of the few places in the area with multiple clearly marked gluten free options. I had the jollaf rice with beef and it was perfect, exactly what I wanted and I had a side of plantains, which were so so yummy. My parents and I came in desperately looking for a place I was comfortable eating (gf girlies get it) and although it was packed the waiter kindly moved some tables around and let us sit. We also all had an amazing non alcoholic mango spritz (the highlight for me tbh) and while they were clearly a little understaffed and we had to wait quite a while for our food, the owner came out and was so apologetic, offering us a discount and free dessert which my parents thoroughly enjoyed (the ice cream omg) which was so unnecessary because we were so pleased with our meals that we didn’t care how long it had taken. Overall amazing experience, food and staff were wonderful (esp the owner and the waitress) and if we had stayed another night in Sligo we would’ve eaten here again. EDIT: I’ve seen many people mention the small portion size, and maybe it’s just my family but none of us finished our food and we were all completely full. order multiple things, try new things and go in with an open mind!

Wow - fantastic experience all around. Came in for a sunny afternoon lunch and would especially recommend the delicious jerk chicken salad and pineapple prawns. Warm and friendly service.

The food is absolutely delicious, and the menu is varied. We had the calamari for the starter; goat curry for the main; and cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding for dessert. Everything was cooked perfectly and the flavour was spot on. We also had the dodo (plantains) to accompany our mains. And this was my favourite. The side sauce was the star - it was sweet, smokey and had delicious aroma of sweet peppers. And the cook and staff are warm and welcoming. Only a 2-3 minute walk from Sligo Abbey parking if coming by car. Must try in Sligo.

Thank you!! We found Funké’s fusion restaurant after some failed attempts around Sligo. And we’re so happy we did! We shared the calamares to start, and then had the fish curry and the smoked tofu as mains. The flavors were absolutely beyond, as she lets you taste the world in her well prepared, creative and delicious dishes. You’ll enjoy it with a relaxing playlist in the background, being served by friendly waiters. Highly recommend! Note for alcohol lovers: you can bring your own bottle if you fancy, as there are no alcoholic drinks served from their collection.
