Fabulous hotel with really lovely staff. Unfortunately the food was a disaster. The bar food was terrible - I had to just send my main back twice. Also breakfast was a mess, huge queue, understaffed, wrong food arriving really late. Was a shame but still a lovely hotel.

I planned my entire Ireland trip around the romantic idea of staying in an abbey and experiencing a falcon fly to my arm and Glenlo did not disappoint!! The service was amazing and personalized from check in to check out. Some of the offerings that stood out would be the staff that provide a tour and escort to your room when you check in. The small bar lounge was my favorite to pop in before or after going to Galway for dinner to have a drink. The staff in this specific bar were amazing, especially a gentleman from France who made the most amazing espresso martinis. I did two activities while here: the spa and the falconry experience. At the spa, I had a massage and facial. The facilities were beautiful, clean and calming. You put your things in a locker and then head to a lounge room with a wall of windows overlooking the water for snacks and beverages before your service. The massage and facial were both professional and well done. I had a shower to clean up on the way out and it was private and clean. The falconry experience is honestly the star of my entire trip. The gentleman who led that experience had the most beautiful falcons, including a tiny owl with feathery horn like eyebrows and orange eyes. I nearly cried with excitement. It’s exactly what I wanted and more. He was so knowledgeable and willing to answer questions earnestly. It was all around one of the most amazing and transformative vacation experiences I’ve ever had—highly highly recommend. The room overlooked the garden which in January wasn’t necessarily amazing, but still pretty. The king size bed was comfortable, but could’ve used some better pillows. The bathroom had a separate large bathtub and a standup shower which all luxurious, clean, tastefully decorated. I also appreciated the snacks and drinks available in the room (some complementary some an extra charge), having tea and sitting by the windows overlooking the garden, was a delight each morning of the stay.

Absolutely beautiful hotel and surroundings.
Had the honour of the falconry experience. To say Jason was very knowledgeable would be an understatement. An absolute gentleman and a very interesting person.
Thank you.

This was our second winter getaway in The Glenlo Abbey.
We had a lovely stay ate in Palmers the first night and Pullman (Orient Express Carraige) the second, and both were excellent.
Fantastic breakfast both mornings, very friendly, professional and efficient and service.
Reception staff and doormen very welcoming, and knowledgeable. And we discovered the mini Cinema!
Perfect location for day trips to Connemara, lovely to come back to real fires, sumptuous reception rooms and delicious cocktails.

We spent two nights of our honeymoon at this hotel and it was a fabulous experience. The hotel is gorgeous, staff is warm and helpful, and the restaurants were very good. If we ever return to Galway, we will be sure to return to this very special place. Thank you, Glenlo Abbey, for the wonderful experience.

First, the good: Glenlo Abbey is a GORGEOUS property, with sweeping views and amazing buildings. You really feel like you've stepped back in time. It's close enough to the Galway city center to experience that but far enough to feel like you're on a provincial estate away from it all.
The golf course looks gorgeous, the Pullman car is a fantastic touch (unfortunately we didnt have a chance to partake in a meal there), and the rooms are very well appointed and spacious.
Breakfast was delicious and classy, with some unfortunate service hiccups (discussed below.) This is definitely a place you want to come to for several days to enjoy all of the amenities.
Unfortunately, there were several missteps that will probably inhibit our return. Generally, the service was friendly but chaotic and absent. Both in the bar and in the breakfast restaurant they are both understaffed and undertrained. People waiting 15-20 minutes to just order a drink at the bar. The nicest bartender had no idea how to make cocktails (at over 15 euro/pop) and we had to have them remade by a more experienced guy. (Again, super nice about it, but admitting you don't normally make drinks in the bar is a not a good start!) And at breakfast we were just ignored. 10, 15, 20 minutes until we could order something. no offer for coffee. finally the coffee did come AFTER we were done with our meals, about 30+ mins after we sat down. I'm not a rushed person, but when you're paying $500+ per night for a room, you expect a certain level of service that this hotel just doesnt have, unfortunately.
Finally, we booked our room through a credit card travel portal, as we had points to burn. I never do this, but it was clear that the hotel treated us worse than others. We only stayed for one night and one of our rooms was horrible. they claimed they were sold out, but why not give someone who checked in after us that horrible room? It was a handicap room with a terrible bathroom and the entire room smelled like paint. Just not what you expect when paying this kind of money (even through an OTA). Next time we will book directly, but the hotel should not relegate certain bookings to their terrible rooms.

We stayed in a two-bedroom lodge at Glenlo Abbey, which was wonderful. The lodge was immaculate and was well-equipped with everything we needed, including a washer and dryer. The beds and rooms were comfortable and well-sized, and the lodge was quiet. The grounds are beautiful. Would definitely recommend especially for larger groups or families.
