Glenside in Dublin

Probably the nicest pub in south Dublin, for good food and drink and definitely the staff, lovely atmosphere as soon as you walk through the door, The Glenside has it all..

Lovely pub, staff and food. Plenty of seating and space. Outdoor smoking area too. Parking on front of pub and at the back too. Food is great with good choice. Young man Roberts behind the bar very friendly and helpful. A great south Dublin pub for food and drinks. Highly recommended.

Food is probably the best pub food in Dublin - restaurant level - absolutely gorge and I reserve 5 stars on food for exceptional food. The staff are really friendly and cheerful. Spotless everything including the loos. Definitely recommended

There are pubs. There are gastro pubs. There are bars pretending to be pubs. And then there are places like The Glenside. Walking up to it feels less like arriving for lunch and more like accidentally driving through a portal into Ireland from about 70 years ago. The thatched roof, the overflowing flower displays, the old-world charm... it's extraordinary. Somehow, this little slice of the countryside is sitting quietly in the middle of Rathfarnham, Dublin. Even more astonishing, it hasn't become some overpriced tourist attraction. It's just... authentic. Step inside and it gets even better. A proper old-style Irish bar. Warm timber. Comfortable leather seating. Character in every corner. Not manufactured "rustic" décor ordered from a catalogue, but the real thing. The atmosphere is exactly what a pub should be: relaxed, welcoming and completely unhurried. Nobody is hovering over your shoulder waiting to clear your plate so they can squeeze in the next customer. You can sit back, enjoy a drink, have a bite to eat and simply appreciate one of those increasingly rare traditional Irish pubs that still remembers what hospitality actually means. The staff were genuinely friendly, the service was excellent, and the place was absolutely spotless. That's becoming rarer than it should be. So many pubs today feel tired and neglected. The Glenside doesn't. It feels loved. Because it was absolutely roasting outside, my uncle kept things simple with a ham and cheese toastie while I ordered the chilli chicken wrap. Exactly what we wanted. Afterwards we settled in with cappuccinos before tackling dessert. He chose the strawberry cheesecake, I went for the brownie, and both disappeared at an alarming rate. Washed down with good coffee, it rounded off a thoroughly enjoyable lunch. The Glenside isn't trying to reinvent the pub. It isn't chasing trends or covering everything in neon signs and craft beer slogans. It's simply doing what great Irish pubs have always done: offering good food, friendly service, a relaxed atmosphere and a setting that reminds you why people fell in love with Irish pubs in the first place. If you've never been, you're missing one of Dublin's genuine hidden treasures. Places like this deserve to be supported because once they're gone, they're gone forever. Go for a coffee. Go for lunch. Go for a pint. Just go.
