Hillgrove Hotel Leisure Club in Monaghan

Easy place to stop for a rest on a journey or to meet up. I stayed once and stopped once on a long journey. Service is good but I have to be honest. Each time I did not rate the food.

Our room at the Hillgrove Hotel was clean and classically decorated. Overall, the hotel is rather outdated. The pool is relatively large with a jacuzzi for around 4 people, but we didn't use the spa and pool area. The hotel's location for visiting the North, Belfast and the Game of Thrones Studio Tour and the Giants Causeway is fantastic. Vegetarians don't get their money's worth at breakfast, unless they like to eat sweets for breakfast. There is a classic English breakfast with beans, ham and sausage. The coffee is good and the service excellent. In the restaurant, the PK Bar, there is a delicious selection of food and beer - typically Irish prices.

We booked this establishment for recent Live band gig. It was 1 st time I ever visited this place,Unfortunately the gig was cancelled ,but we went ahead with the booking anyway After a 2 & half hrs drive we arrived, The check in was a disaster,no trace of the booking info could be found,even though we had various responses/ emails from the hotel identifying the original booking ,requiring arrival ,/dining time criteria etc. We eventually got it sorted and after some time,we were allocated to what I would call a spare/back up room,,1 key card.a little shabby to say the least. We eventually got prepped & cautiously headed to restaurant ,Well I can definitely say "Grace & the staff" in there, rescued the earlier bad experience mood ,the food was Scrumptious,Staff were nothing short of excellent,service was brilliant ,by very young pair. We also had a great night in the bar later on ,great bar staff.& Music.It was a crying shame the Receptionist were not up to the task, ,& could have ruined a great weekend stay.

Fantastic hotel well worth the 5 stars from the moment myself & wife walked through the stunning foyer to the time to leave was a magical experience staff so friendly you felt part of the family food was great breakfast through to dinner the staff at the leisure centre so friendly made you feel really relaxed rooms so clean & beds were so comfortable it was hard to get up in the morning hotel so close to city centre which was a bonus so glad myself & wife picked this hotel would come back again 100%🥳

Actually the family room was grand the group of ladies who clean them do a fantastic job. My problem is with the pool area. The floor in the pool reception area was absolutely disgusting with dirt & also the floor in changing rooms & leading to the pool not much better. Thankfully we all had our sliders. The pool area is starting to get run down in alot of places. Great hotel for kids but we didn't go back to the pool the 2nd day because of these issues which was very disappointing for our kids.

Nice child friendly hotel. They have a small cinema and kids club in the lobby. The staff in the restaurant were excellent and the rooms were nice. Good pool though a bit small. Breakfast was also good.
