Little cafe that is hitting way above their weight class with their lunch menu. Took a table of 6 no problem and everything we had was great. Definitely a must do if you are coming through. Had to pay for street parking but it was reasonable.

BEST CARBONARA IN L'KENNY!
Great food, great company, 10/10
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Before you even get to the food, the atmosphere and service alone set The Himalayan Café apart. It is warm, welcoming, genuine, and full of heart. From the moment you walk in, you feel valued. There is a sense of care, pride, and connection that is increasingly rare and incredibly important. This is a place where people matter, where conversations happen naturally, and where the experience is just as important as what is served on the plate. The staff are extremely knowledgeable, friendly and efficient.
Then comes the food, which is exceptional. Creative, exciting, and beautifully prepared, it reflects a deep respect for quality and flavour. Their menu celebrates local and seasonal ingredients wherever possible, supports Irish suppliers, and provides meaningful employment for people in Letterkenny. Everything is done with intention and integrity, and it shows. This is food made with passion, knowledge, and pride in both local and international culinary traditions.
Their tapas and sushi nights are amazing, try to get a booking this year! By recognising and supporting local artists and practitioners, they create evenings that are about far more than food. They bring together people from all backgrounds and walks of life, from native Donegal locals to visitors and tourists, using cuisine, creativity, and shared experience to connect people.
The positive impact of this, especially right now, cannot be overstated. At a time when so many chain retailers are taking over, offering little more than overpriced drinks, bad coffee, and a soulless dining experience, the Himalayan Café stands as a reminder of what a truly great business looks like. This is not about quick profit or cutting corners. This is about care, community, and reinvesting back into the place and people who support them. It is the difference between a transaction and an experience.

A Taste of the Himalayas in the Heart of Donegal 🏔️🇮🇪
Tucked away on Church Lane in Letterkenny’s historic Cathedral Quarter, Himalayan Café has become a true breath of fresh air for the local food scene. It’s that rare gem that shifts effortlessly from a sunlit brunch haven to a buzzing evening destination later in the week, perfectly blending Irish warmth with the aromatic soul of Nepalese and Indian traditions. ✨
The Vibe & Service 🏮
From the moment you walk in, the electic and cozy decor makes you feel right at home. It strikes that perfect balance between a laid-back café and an intimate dinner spot. What truly sets it apart, though, is the exceptional service. The staff are famous for their "nothing is too much trouble" philosophy—always greeting guests with a heartfelt smile and going the extra mile to handle dietary needs or find your perfect spice level. 🤝❤️
From Morning Staples to Evening Delights 🍳🥘
The versatility of the menu is where the magic happens:
* The Brunch Scene: By day, they rival the best coffee shops in town. The pancakes with caramelized bananas and pecans are legendary in Letterkenny! For a savory kick, the Bombay Sandwich is a must-try; the potato masala and spicy green chutney provide an authentic taste of Mumbai. 🥞🌶️ Vegan diners also rave about the Tofu Scramble, proving the kitchen’s dedication to fresh, inclusive cooking.
* The Evening Menu: As the sun sets, the Himalayan roots shine. The Delhi Butter Chicken and Green Curry are rich and fragrant without feeling heavy. If you’re craving a broader Asian influence, the Pad Thai and Prawn Tikka are seamless fusion dishes that hit every sweet, sour, and spicy note perfectly. 🍜🍤
Quality You Can Taste 🌿
Unlike your average takeaway, the food here feels clean, artisanal, and homemade. Whether it’s the flaky texture of the Paratha bread or the crunch of fresh stir-fry vegetables, the quality is evident in every bite. Plus, the pricing is very fair given the generous portions and high-end ingredients. 💰👌
Good to Know Before You Go 📝
* Cleanliness: A quick shout-out to the facilities—the toilets are spotless and well-maintained! ✨
* The Parking Challenge: Be warned, parking on Church Lane can be a bit of a mission! 🚗 Street parking is the only option and it’s usually packed. You’ll need a bit of luck (or a lot of patience) to snag a spot right outside.
Final Verdict ⭐
Himalayan Café is a brilliant example of how Letterkenny’s dining scene is evolving. It moves past the clichés of traditional curry houses to offer something vibrant, fresh, and beautifully presented. It is more than just a place for a caffeine fix; it’s a culinary bridge between Donegal and Asia. I can’t recommend it enough to my friends and family! ☕🥘

Located in the historic Cathedral Quarter on Church Lane, Himalayan Café has brought a refreshing, soul-warming energy to Letterkenny’s dining scene since its open. This cafe is a rare find that transitions effortlessly from a bright brunch spot to a vibrant evening destination during later in the week. They have completely managed to blend the warmth of a local Irish cafe with the vibrant, aromatic soul of Nepalese and Indian cuisine.
The first thing you notice upon entering is the cozy, eclectic décor. It feels personal and welcoming, striking a balance between a relaxed brunch spot and an intimate dinner venue. The service is frequently highlighted by locals for being exceptionally attentive; the staff is known for their "nothing is too much trouble" attitude, whether they are accommodating dietary requirements or suggesting the perfect spice level for your palate.
The beauty of Himalayan Cafe lies in its versatility. During the day, it competes with the best coffee shops in town, offering impeccably presented breakfast staples.
The Brunch Favorites: The pancakes with caramelized bananas and pecans are frequently cited as the best in Letterkenny. The Bombay Sandwich takes you back straight to Mumbai / Bombay where it all started. Perfect balance of taste in Potato Masala filling and that spice lick from the green chutney is to die for. Those seeking something savory, the Eggs Florentine and Tofu Scramble (a hit with the vegan community) showcase the kitchen’s commitment to freshness.
Evening Flavors: As night falls later during the week, the menu leans into its Himalayan roots. The Delhi Butter Chicken and Green Curry are rich and aromatic without being overly heavy. The Pad Thai is another crowd favorite, balancing sweet, sour, and spicy notes perfectly. The Delhi Butter Chicken and Green Curry are standout entrees, while their Pad Thai and Prawn Tikka bring a broader Asian influence to the table. The fusion is seamless and a must try. (I haven't tried the evening menu yet but heard a lot about it from my friends)
Unlike many standard curry houses, the food here feels "clean" and homemade. You can taste the quality in the small details, from the texture of the Paratha bread to the vibrant, fresh vegetables used in their stir-fries. The pricing remains competitive, especially considering the generous portion sizes and the artisanal quality of the ingredients.
Staff here were very welcoming and always serve with a sweet smile that just melts your heart and makes you feel loved. Toilet is spot clean and no bad smell at all. Talking about the parking, it is somewhat impossible to get a parking here. The only parking I could find was the street parking which is again a big task as the place and area is very busy with all the parking spots already taken. I was lucky enough to get a space as the other car moved out right on time orelse it is very difficult to park the car nearby.
Overall, Himalayan Cafe is a testament to Letterkenny’s evolving food scene. It avoids the cliches of traditional "takeaway" Indian food, opting instead for fresh ingredients and vibrant presentation. Himalayan Cafe is more than just a place for a caffeine fix; it is a culinary bridge between Donegal hospitality and Asian tradition. Whether you are there for a morning latte or a steaming bowl of prawn tikka, it offers a consistent, high-quality experience that feels both healthy and indulgent. I would definitely recommend this place to my near and dear ones.
