It is many years since i had visited the former Midway, now the Maldron Hotel in Portlaois. As a meeting venue it is so handy just off the motorway. The meeting rooms are to a high standard. Refreshments including lunch were very good (food was always nice here!). There is plenty parking also. Spare youself the carnage of the N7 and have your meeting here.

Great location for Kildare shopping village. Has an applegreen in its complex with a food court and drinks which was good. Warm and cosy. Didn’t use the leisure complex. Double glass window kept noise out from the main road. Tea coffee water and biscuits were welcome for the arrival. Quick check in. No shower cap or shampoo. Hairdryer was exceptionally hot with no way of cooling it. Breakfast bar too far back to reach into the food stuff. Menu in the restaurant a bit limited. I ordered a pizza and wasn’t told one of the main ingredients wasn’t in it until I asked for more and was then told there wasn’t any :(.

The best hotel with the best bar staff and best night staff on duty at reception. Coming back from Dublin I had to check in due to tiredness. At midnight we were treated like old friends even helping us order some food. 11 out of 10. Eamonn and Daragh Cregan.

Keanes Oyster Bar

25/10/2025: We spent one night here in the lovely and comfortable accomodation. We loved their delicious oysters. Definitely recommend visiting this friendly and welcoming family run business :)
30/09/2025: Oysters are fresh and delicious. All the condiments and add ons with bread baskets. Haddock was lovely too. Add this to the long list of 5 star eateries with excellent service and food in Ireland.

Ballyseede Castle Hotel

02/12/2025: After viewing a few venues before, we knew from the moment we arrived at Ballyseede Castle that this was where we wanted to get married. The venue is absolutely stunning, but what truly made it exceptional was the staff. From our first tour to planning the final details, they were incredible. The bridal suite where we got ready was massive and beautiful, which made the morning feel so relaxed and special. The Belfry, where we had our ceremony, was also amazing and created the perfect setting. They made sure both we and our guests were having an amazing time, and the entire day ran like clockwork. They worked with all our vendors so we didn’t have to worry about a thing. Many of our guests also told us it was the best wedding dinner they had ever had. We can’t thank the team enough, and we will definitely be back for a visit in the future. To anyone considering booking Ballyseede, you won’t regret it.
02/12/2025: I’m a wedding DJ and get to play in Ballyseede Castle quite regularly. Mary and Paul are A class wedding coordinators and things always run very smoothly on the day. There is always a great atmosphere around the venue and the staff here are very sociable with guests.
