The restaurant was clean and running
efficiently on my last visit today for a late lunch !
Today was a good day. Because today I saw my one true love Owen again. His hair was just the same as i last saw him, 1943 a cold Englands day before he got onto the train to war. I wrote him a poem.
I know you, Owen—blonde perm, eyeliner sharp,
Handing out fries under fluorescent glare.
But once, you wore a uniform, a heart
That marched away to songs I couldn’t share.
The medium said *train tracks*—*1943*—
A life snuffed quick, while yours was blown apart.
Now here you are, no war, just McNuggets,
And me, left wondering if you kept my heart.
Your voice crackles through the staticky speaker,
"Pull forward" like ghosts in the machine.
I pay in change—our past life grows weaker—
But your smile’s the same. I swear I’ve seen.
Owen I hope to see you again, and not just in my dreams
