This makes for a wonderful day out. The gardens are wonderful and well worth walking around slowly to enjoy the different vistas. Even during a hot dry summer there was lots of colour everywhere. The cafe serves delicious food and the shops are interesting too.

These gardens are a hidden gem. We have an annual membership and every time we go, it's a different feast for the eyes. Each season has multiple waves of blooming so there's always something new and beautiful to enjoy with every corner and path revealing surprises and delights. It's never crowded, and the serenity of the river walk is a balm.

We were there on a very busy day so service was a little slow, but they did say this as they seated us and were very attentive. Outdoor space is lovely despite a few birds getting up close and personal with us. Accessible toilets and a good menu. Parking was a little tricky on such a busy day.

The shops were nice but the main thing for us was Mount Usher gardens. A very staff member gave us a map that helped us guide ourselves around a large and stunning forest/gardens. The scenery was stunning, the info was brilliant and really kept our 10 year old interested and it was so peaceful.

The garden comprises of many beautiful flower plants and a verity of trees of which some are very old trees. Its so scenic with a couple of small bridges and small canal passing through. Nice place to visit with family or friends. Note that, it has some entry fee. There are few shops and a nice restaurant with in the premises.

🌿 Safe Spaces Travel Review If you're visiting Mount Usher Gardens, don't make the mistake of rushing through. This is a garden meant to be experienced slowly. Wander the woodland paths, stop on the bridges, sit beside the river, and allow yourself time to notice the extraordinary collection of mature trees and naturalistic planting inspired by William Robinson. The Avoca Café fully deserves its excellent reputation. The food is beautifully prepared, fresh, and feels more like gourmet home cooking than typical café fare. Although there can be a wait during busy periods, I found the experience well worth it. If you follow a vegan diet, options are available, although desserts are limited. During my visit, the only vegan dessert was a fruit sorbet. The staff were overwhelmingly young, welcoming, and helpful. My only less-than-positive interaction was with one member of the retail shop staff, but everyone else I encountered made me feel genuinely welcome. Safety & Comfort Tips: • Bring your own water bottle for the gardens. • Ask for the garden tree map at the entrance—it adds another layer of enjoyment to the walk. • Plan to spend at least a day here. The slower you move, the more rewarding the experience becomes. My Recommendation: Mount Usher Gardens became one of the highlights of my Ireland journey. Rather than simply being a beautiful garden, it is a place that encourages your nervous system to slow down, breathe, and reconnect with the natural world. I would happily return. — Troy Alan Cox The Safe Spaces Project

Very nice place to have afternoon tea, selection of shops and tea rooms available and a nice garden to sit in. Plenty of parking out the front and back

CHESTER BEATTY INN

05/04/2026: Myself and my wife stayed in the chester Beatty on Easter Saturday night On arrival we were met in reception by two very welcoming gentlemen. Check in took about one minute or less, asked if we needed to book table for food as the car park was fairly full, we were told there would be no problem just go in when ready. We went to our room which was absolutely spotless and warm. Food was wonderful, fast and the staff couldn't have been nicer. We had a couple of drinks later in the bar which were lovely aswell with bar staff were great. After a very good sleep we had breakfast which was perfect in every way. Definitely visit again. Most friendly staff ever Martin and Betty Dempsey Wexford
15/03/2026: Mother’s Day so it was busy. 1hr wait for table. All of the staff were friendly and the food was ok but we had to wait over an hour for food to come out. Warm atmosphere but won’t be returning for food.

The Woodpecker

16/07/2026: France Spain game was starting so had to stop for Ashford to watch the game. AI recommended this place. Was good place to watch the game and have a pint before we continuing the journey. No food here btw. Not sure if new thing as earlier reviews showed some meals.
