My wife and I have been spending most weekends in Fanore for years, and a big part of that tradition has always included visits to this pub—usually once, if not twice, during each stay. Often we're joined by friends, and over time, it's become something of a weekend ritual for all of us.
In the past, we always found the atmosphere warm and welcoming. The bar staff, although not the quickest, were genuinely friendly and conversational, which more than made up for the wait. There was a real sense of being part of something local and familiar, which we always appreciated.
However, since the change in ownership, we’ve all noticed a shift—and not for the better when it comes to the service. While it's fantastic that the pub is now open year-round and daily (a major plus for locals and regular visitors), the level of engagement from the new staff just isn’t the same. On multiple occasions, we've found ourselves standing at the bar being overlooked, even when it's clear we’re waiting to be served. Staff often have their backs turned or walk past without acknowledgement, which is frustrating, especially for a place we visit so consistently.
It’s not about expecting special treatment, but when the same faces are in week after week, a simple "hello" or some friendly recognition would go a long way. Unfortunately, that welcoming atmosphere we once looked forward to now feels diminished.
We’ve had similar conversations with several other regulars who feel the same—it’s the small things that make a big difference. We still love coming here and are happy the pub is thriving in new ways, but we hope the team can reconnect with the heart and spirit of what made this place special: genuine friendliness, attentiveness, and making customers feel seen and valued.
We’ll continue to visit, but we’d love to see the old warmth return.
Unbelievably great food. We came with no expectations, and all of us said it was as good as a meal we've ever had. Two had salmon. They said it was the best they've ever had. I had a hot cabbage dish with what I think was a reduced teriyaki sauce of some sort. It had other vegetables as well and was absolutely delectable.
And I am a foodie and a pretty good cook. It's hard to impress me. And this food impressed me and my guests extremeLy much. Wow!
