Oliveto in Dublin

An excellent atmosphere, welcoming, happy, helpful staff. Delicious food, beautifully presented. It was a pleasure to be there looking out over the bay on a beautiful evening in wonderful company. Definitely be back. Thank you Oliveto.

Our favorite place in Dun Laoghaire 😊

We were staying in Haddington House so we naturally decided to have dinner at Oliveto’s. The surroundings were very pleasant, the menu had good variety (but not to the degree that you couldn’t decide what you wanted or that everything was going to be frozen and reheated) and it was very reasonably priced. My partner had the Arrabbiata whilst I had the Prawn Longuine. Delicious, simple and no scrimping on the prawns. The waitress was alright, nothing memorable. My main gripe was that a 10% service charge was added to the bill. This was non-negotiable. I CANNOT stand restaurants doing this. It’s a new thing that’s appeared in the last few years across Irish restaurants and is extremely American. There was a small piece of text at the bottom of the menu, to reassure patrons that all of the service charge went directly to the staff. Well, yes I’d like to think so? Isn’t that where tips are supposed to go? Overall everything was excellent or very good, apart from this. That’s why I’m removing one star. It’s a very bad way to tout for extra cash.

We stayed in the Haddington House Hotel (adjoining) for four nights and on two of those we had dinner in this restaurant. The first of those occasions we had booked in advance owing to its proximity and following our experience, we booked to also have dinner on the last night. Our decision to return was despite experiencing rather excessive noise from the crowded dining room during our first visit, but it was also heavily influenced by the excellent service and high-quality cuisine. Our second visit did not disappoint in any manner whatsoever and hence we would very much recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting nearby.
