So many people complaining about this place but my experience was quite the opposite. Interesting selection of foods, low prices and the place wasn’t crowded (maybe because it’s Friday). Overall one of the better places to eat in campus, would recommend.

Infamous UCD restaurant with a strict manager… BUT IT GOT BETTER THIS TIME!!!!
I’ll admit, Pi used to be my favorite restaurant during my academic journey. Everything was great - until second part of my second year, when it all went downhill. Prices went up, portions got smaller, and it all stopped being student-friendly. So, like many others, I wandered off to other spots on campus.
But after a long summer break, I’m happy to say that Pi is BACK on top as my favorite campus restaurant. Prices have come down, portions are much more generous, and the food quality has definitely improved. Let’s just hope it stays that way! The only thing that got expensive is the soup - almost Dublin City Centre prices.
The daily menu rotation is back, which is great for someone like me who loves variety. Sure, some people might find it annoying to have only three options per day, but I love that there’s always something new. Plus, there’s always a vegetarian option on offer, so no one gets left out.
Now, let’s talk about that manager. Honestly, the situation hasn’t changed much — every visit feels like moving through a minefield. You are always afraid to do something wrong. But, to be fair, she has softened up a bit. As long as you follow the rules, no one will touch you. Just keep your head down, eat your food, and you’ll be fine.
The biggest downside? Pi closes at around 15:00-16:00, which is tough because, let’s face it, you’re at your hungriest after all lectures finish. And for most students, they finish after 16:00. So without Pi, you end up getting fast food or other non-healthy options in alternative places on UCD Campus. It would be amazing if Pi restaurant had a dinner option for most students, where they will eat actual and proper meals instead of chicken nuggets with chips (looking at you, Clubhouse). I have nothing against chicken nuggets and chips, but it would be good to have an alternative to be honest.
All in all, Pi came back and ones again become fantastic spot for breakfast and lunch. The prices are reasonable, the food is quick and healthy. So be sure to try Pi Restaurant again, even if you got kicked out for just sitting there once upon a time.

Honestly, prices are very high to be a students canteen. There is a vegetarian option every day, which is good. However, food was mild and they also managed to fail to make an hamburger once, such an easy dish.
