We’d had an early morning flight from London to Dublin and were looking at a long drive to Galway when we happened upon Shaw’s. What a delightful welcome and delicious lunch!
We each had the vegetable soup, which was more like a squash or pumpkin soup and very good. She had a very nice BLT and I had a Hot Joint sandwich which featured ham, today, and was also very nice. We stuck to water since we were driving but the bar is amply-stocked, as well.
Most importantly, the gentleman waiting on us, whose name we neglected to ask for, was very friendly and gregarious. It was clear the place has a connection to horse racing and he shared that prominent horse breeder Gordon Elliott is from the area and they’re clearly very proud of him!
If you’re looking for a nice bite, a cold drink and a warm welcome, you should make sure Shaw’s of Summerhill is on your itinerary.
