We were visiting friends in Monaghan and they suggested we go to the Squealing Pig, I was ready for pub food and was pleasantly surprised when we went upstairs to Porky's. It was elegant, cozy and the staff were so kind and welcoming. We sat by a window so I could see everything going on in the square. As for ordering, it was hard to pick one thing to eat.
For starter we got the crispy garlic Monaghan mushroom, which were the freshest, tastiest things I have ever had. I would have loved to take some home, but they won't last a 13 hour flight.
As for dinner three of us got the sirloin steak and my husband got the ribs. The sirloin was cooked to perfection and melted in your mouth, The portion of the ribs were so huge, my husband could only eat half, they were fall off the bone great.
Unfortunately we were too full for dessert, and that was hard to just say no.
Porky's is a must when visiting Monaghan.
Omg you have to try the duck burger my hubby loved it and I had a sneak bite :) curry unreal also very filling onion rings on side lovely and crispy :)
Having seen The squeeling Pig many the rally car over the years, got the opportunity to visit this eve. The menu had caught my eye earlier on line and it lived up to my expectations, the chicken with chirico sauce was delicious, really enjoyed. And the hake dish was thoroughly enjoyed by my better half. The staff were ever so pleasant, not surprising this venue has been on the radar for as long as I remember. Also I noted the list of awards adorning the wall of the town centre venue.
Great place for a quiet pint or food but doormen very arrogant at night called in on Christmas eve and place was full, waited 20 min for a table which I didn't mind and were given free shots . Ordered our food and starters came out pretty prompt but unfortunately we waited over an hour for our mains , food was excellent but member of staff could have popped over and apologise for delay but if won't stop me eating there again

04/02/2025: As a Brit working in Ireland I thought this place had a limited choice, but I believe that's typical of Irish chippies. I thought it was expensive too, but on the plus side, the chips were really nice. My friend had fish, and he said it was very dry though.
