Attended the Lee wedding, honestly don't know where to start, from the moment we arrived we knew that this hotel was special. All the staff we encountered very friendly and helpful. Our room was cosy, clean and comfortable. The food was fabulous from the prewedding food to the actual wedding meal and breakfast the following morning, I honestly couldn't fault it all one bit. Loved the "things to do locally " at the back of the breakfast menu. Lovely idea. What I also enjoyed was that the wedding guests had basically taken over the hotel which made the wedding very personal. Honestly, we would not hesitate in coming back to stay there again.

An exceptional hotel in a beautiful town . Very large and bright rooms, great breakfast and bar food, and really wonderful staff . In a sea of bland and impersonal hotels, Step House is a place that retains a true sense of hospitality - welcoming, personal and warm.
Thank you for making my parents' recent stay so special, for taking such care of my dad, and for the thoughtful gift for their 60th wedding anniversary !
Just wonderful ❤️
Excellent hotel, nice big room room with large shared balcony. Big bathroom with bath and a seperate shower.
The only problem we had was the room was very hot with the heating on full. Turning down the radiators helped.

We visited the 1808 bar for a meal on easter sunday , we booked well in advance as we knew it would be a busy night . Firstly , the staff (the 2 girls that served us) were extremely attentive and friendly, especially considering how busy it was. The only issues we ran into were , unfortunately , with the food .
Presentation was lovely , The food looks as if it were taken from an art gallery .
I had the scallops to start and everything was delicious, except for the mussels , im not sure whether they were gone off or were just over cooked but had a really bad taste off them .
Scallops were delicious though.
My mother and father both had the beef for mains, my fathers was perfect but my mothers was extremely fatty. When paying the same price u should receive the same cut.
With dessert i ordered the Arabic coffee creme brulee , i was really excited to try as i love Arabic coffee.
Unfortunately when i put my spoon into the dish the whole table got a foul smell.
The only way we can describe it , is like cat food. The kitchen then stated that the smell was the arabic coffee which i knew was a poor excuse.
I never complain about food as i work in service and feel for the staff when its done , but this wasnt right.
I told a server and she was extremely kind about it and offered something else in replacement. In the end i just had a coffee which was lovely.
Overall it wasnt a bad meal, but when your paying €253 for a meal for 3 people, you expect it to be amazing .
Solid 3/5.

Disappointing. We popped down here to avail of their Sunday night special offer. This is an olde style country hotel and it was lovely to be greeted by a turf fire burning the reception area. Check in was flawless. Our room was quite big with a large bathroom.
However, there was nothing in the room telling us about the history of the hotel or places of interest, WiFi passwords etc. My wife wanted to have a shower but the water was only luke warm. We later discovered a switch in the bedroom which apparently heated up the water but there was no mention of this anywhere.
We had booked a meal for 7.30pm. Dinner was served in the 1808 bar and it was quite busy when we got there. Food was a let down unfortunately. My wife had Goats cheese for starters but it was not a very good Goats cheese. The featherblade of beef that I had was tough whilst my wife's Cod was beautiful but the accompanying sauce did nothing for it and the carrot purée tasted of curry. We ordered some seasonal vegetables but all that arrived was a bowl of Broccoli. I would have thought there were other vegetables in season. A mixture would have been nice. Deserts were hit and miss as well. The Crème Brulé was dense and the Parfait was just o.k. Breakfast the next morning was good and the scrambled eggs were wonderful. All the staff we encountered were brilliant.
We got parking on the street across from the hotel.

We went for a dinner with my boyfriend. The service was excellent. Even though we were a bit late they provided us with the table! The booking is essential. The food was amazing. This is my second experience in the 1808 Brasserie & Cellar Restaurant and it was just the same, bravo! We ordered roast breasts of chicken and slow cooked feather blade beef. And the dessert left me speechless... it was just a dream: classic Creme Brulee with Raspberry sorbet ❤️ Thank you very much! It turned out to be the great day... with the proposal in the end! (on the Viaduct 🥰)
