Coffee is great, though very strong. Service is slow. Pastries are delicious. The dog thing though, jeez people. Have to say I think it goes a bit far. I personally really dislike the dogs IN the cafe. Especially when staff feed and pet them. It is so off putting. This is on customers too tbh. These days people with dogs seem to think everyone should love them and they should be able to bring them everywhere, even into a food service business. Even outside they can be a pain if there are too many. In fairness, I've paid for a cup of coffee, can I not drink it without the side of dog? It's the main downside for me. I always do a run by for size of queue and level of dog before I decide whether to go in or not!

I normally love coming here and I love that they are dog friendly, however, today my mam and I had an experience that has kind of put us off a little bit. We waited over 20 mins in the queue, and then when they handed me our drinks I mentioned that we had ordered pastries too. They said that the pastries we ordered were all gone and we would have to wait 8 mins for new ones in the oven. When we ordered the pastries, there were so many in the glass case, so this means they didn’t give them to us when we ordered, they gave them away to the people in the queue after us. The girl at the till was nice about it and did offer a refund and a free different pastry, but we were just disappointed in general with the wait and the fact our pastries were given away after we had ordered and paid. The wait was also hard as we had our puppy with us who was starting to get impatient and bark

Such a gorgeous little cafe, so warm and welcoming. The coffee and pastries are scrumptious and the staff friendly and welcoming. I was served by an extremely smiley and helpful teenage girl who made my awkward coffee order perfectly!

Tolka House

16/05/2026: Lucy and kitty made the first experience amazing experts in whiskey would highly Recommend here without a doubt
07/05/2026: We popped in for dinner and a pint. The decor, vibe, ambiance, and feel do not match the food or service. I ordered the "pie of the day" (chicken and bacon with a side of mashed potatoes and roasted veg) and my husband the burger. At €20 a plate I was expecting something other than what appeared to be boiled and thickly cut chicken breast with a few bit of bacon in an overly salted cream sauce along with run of the mill mashed potatoes with small chunks of veg that were pan fried. It almost smacked of what you could get as a pre-made meal at Tesco. The burger was equally disappointing. Dry, overcooked (was never asked how it should be prepared), and the toppings were underwhelming. The chips that came with the burger were OK, but unremarkable and should have been cooked for at least another minute or two to crisp up the outside. When I say the vibe didn't match the service, it boils down, quite a bit, to the service. The bartender would frequently mess with his hair showing his midriff. If you're going to present your establishment as a "cut above", I would expect a bit of decorum with proper attire. Our server (I didn't catch her name) had the personality of a rock and was cold (never mean, but definitely has the feeling she didn't really want to be there). Maybe it's because it's the "low season" being early May, but come on! For €52 for 2 meals and 2 pints, surely you can do better. Also, what is up with the weird thumping noise that was vibrating the ceiling lights? Super annoying.
