The Granary Gastro Pub in Athlone

The place is newly renovated. Looks amazing. Food was unreal, great price comparing to what you have order. Worth to pay a visit.

This is part of the hotel and it is where you will get your evening meal and breakfast if dining in the hotel. Arrived 18:00 on a Wednesday. The place was empty. Ordered the fish and chips and buttermilk chicken burger Two pieces of fish, quite a dark batter and soggy in the middle. I took one mouthful of the coleslaw that came with the burger but didn’t eat anymore as it was warm. The chicken was ok but salad was non existent; two small lettuce leaves, one slice of the end of a tomato the saving grace was that the chips were ok. We went back in the evening for alcohol. At the hotel reception we were told the bar would close about 21:30 but if people are in they would carry on serving. On entering the bar at 21:15 we were told the bar would be closed and locked at 22:00. The barman was polite and helpful and did carry our drinks out to the outside seating which was helpful. We went back in the morning for breakfast. We went for the full breakfast (approx €29 for two) it was nice, hot, tasty and filling.
