The Make & Mark in Portlaoise

Service was very very slow. Drinks orders were muddled and we had to ask multiple times for a remaining drink which meant one member of the party waited over 20 mins for her drink. Food was ok. Plenty of parking. I would hate to see it at a busy weekend if the service is that slow during the week.

Can't tell you how much I love this place when ever I'm in Laois..family time 9 of us service was great food was Fab & dessert was delicious as always get my favourite.. 😋 100%

Food is always amazing great big portions

Excellent food and great service! We had the vegan mains and dessert, unbelievably tasty and huge portions. Our son had kids fish and chips, with a Nutella sundae, great portion size again and he loved it! All the staff are really friendly.

Food was tasteless and dry. Way over priced. Staff were friendly enough. Service ok. But food very disappointing.

Here as a group of 5 last weekend. Food was ok but service is what lets this place down. 2 diet cokes ordered, a normal coke and a Fanta received? We asked if the tv beside our table could be turned down as we couldn’t hear each other speaking and while the girl said she would, it was definitely not turned down. Then, while I was still eating my main, the girls came to clear the plates from the others that were finished. This happened previously when I ate here with my boyfriend and we let it slide, however, this is terribly poor service and tables shouldn’t be cleared until everyone is finished eating. To make matters worse, while I had food in my mouth the girl decided to take my bowl of chips away and I had to stop her when I had already said I wasn’t finished. Following this, I was still eating my mains and the server came around with the dessert menus. She then returned to ask for dessert orders where I had to tell her can she wait until I’ve finished eating. I would have thought this is the basic expectation for service staff. Eventually when we got around to ordering desserts for the whole table, 1 sundae came out and the other desserts didn’t come out for at least 15 minutes after so we barely got to eat desserts together. I would be quicker to go for dinner in the sister restaurant, The Hideout in Kilcullen. Food, service and atmosphere is far better there and it’s a pity this hasn’t translated to the portlaoise restaurant.

Have eaten at the Make and Mark on a lot of occasions and they never disappoint. Great selection on menu and also great vegetarian options! Staff are lovely. A special mention to the Edele for her friendliness and professionalism. Edel a big thank you!. Make and Mark definitely worth a visit 😊👍
