The best restaurants in Portlaoise

21/08/2026: This is my new favourite place in Portlaoise. The food is so tasty and fresh. Flavour combos are fabulous, staff are super and the food quality is consistent, in both the restaurant itself and delivery. I highly recommend this - there's something to suit everyone; from smashed beef burgers to chicken to vegetarian. The quality food leaves you feeling happily full - it's a proper, freshly prepared meal, not fast food. The restaurant itself has been refurbished and the stairs is now wide with relatively shallow steps and a sturdy handrail so it's far more accessible now than what it was with previous businesses.

24/08/2026: Food here is very good starters and mains top class wine very good not the cheapest place to eat but can't have it every way.

15/08/2026: I had two servers. The person leading me to my table, which they managed on zero notice, seemed a bit shy and maybe new, or grumpy. The gentleman taking my food order was friendly and understanding of my request on dietary issues and smaller portions. The fillet steak is melt in your mouth and everything on your plate complements each other in the best possible way. It's a bit out of a drive for me to dine here. I will definitely come back at some stage. Highly recommend!

20/08/2026: Exceptional selection of Wines, Cheeses, treats and snacks. They do gift hampers and take away coffee. This was my first trip and it wont be my last.

05/08/2026: Has to be the best in portlaoise or even I rather say in the entire county for a excellent selection of great wine,hampers and more. I enjoy getting my weekly wine from here , never had a bad experience and the staff are always happy and very acknowledgable on their wine . There is also great selection of cheese too . I would highly recommend Grape and Bean .

14/08/2026: Good quality food and service. I got the steak sandwich on one visit which had very little meat in it but still was tasty. Chicken and chorizo pie a separate evening was very good quality.

04/08/2026: Love stradbally fayre, staff are amazing, always friendly and polite especially Teresa and Ann, always make time for a chat and acknowledge their customers, they are massive assets to the business extremely hard workers top marks to all the staff. Food is super hearty, dishes always so fresh, portions are v decent. Spotlessly clean and the cafe us always well presented as are the staff,. The standards are exceptional. Beautiful little cafe with a lovely community vibe, a little gem in Stradbally town centre ideal stop off for a 🥥 coconut latte my fav, breakfast, lunch and dinners. 01/07/2026: Great, lively, classic Irish pub!! We had a cousin reunion here when visiting from the States. Jack and Billy were wonderful accommodating our reservation requests. They even helped coordinate food being brought in for us. We really enjoyed our evening here and will definitely visit again when back in Ireland!

30/06/2026: I had my 21st birthday here this week, and the team at Rams was absolutely amazing! They truly made the night so special for us it was truly a night we will never forget. The venue itself is perfect – spacious and family-friendly. I would definitely recommend this venue to everyone!

16/08/2026: When me and my friend got our food there was a hair in the sauce which is okay because she asked for a new one and the lady was very nice but my chicken tenders tasted very sour and like the oil was burnt and it was cooked in it I could only eat the chips it was very unpleasant I just hope u can pay more attention towards stuff like that

18/08/2026: 5/5 Stars – Incredible coffee, delicious food, and outstanding service! If you’re in Portlaoise, Brew Cafe is an absolute must-visit. The coffee is exceptionally tasty, expertly prepared, and presented beautifully every single time. The food is just as impressive—everything is fresh, appetizing, and served in very generous portions at very reasonable prices. What truly sets this spot apart, though, is the amazing team. The staff are incredibly friendly, polite, and attentive. We had a lovely chat, and the level of service was top-tier. We highly recommend Brew Cafe to anyone looking for great food, incredible coffee, and a welcoming atmosphere!

22/08/2026: Came in with a friend got a last-minute table, but the food was exceptional and so was the service.

21/08/2026: Food: Prosciutto honey Gorgonzola on bread was good but it needed more honey. Creamy prawn pasta was lovely. Nduja pizza was also very nice but it was definitely undercooked, very little browning on the crust. The sticky toffee pudding was very good. The tiramisu was the biggest disappointment. It was not at all cold, very liquidy, and the lady fingers were not soaked all the way through. It was as if it had been made and refrigerated when we were still on our starters. Quite disappointing. Service: Everything came out in good time and our orders were promptly taken but the waitress was quite cold. We did not get a very warm welcome and they forgot our dip. Also, when we asked to pay we didn’t receive a bill to check over, we were just presented with the card machine. We also were not greeted when we came nor did we receive a goodbye, I think this is very basic stuff that a server should do. Atmosphere: It was decent but nothing special. Nice flowers and heater and blankets which was good as we sat outside. Overall it wasn’t their finest day. I’ve been here before and it’s been better than this. I will come back again but I will definitely be hoping for better service and better attention paid to the quality of the experience.

13/07/2026: Their braised beef hash is wonderful would highly recommend and their pastries/cakes always hit the spot.

03/06/2026: I was passing through Portlaoise at the weekend and wanted a quick bite to eat. I stopped at the Parkside Shopping Centre due to handy parking outside and went into Kelly Lou's. I chose a sausage roll and coleslaw and while it's something I like I seldom order it as they can be a bit hit and miss. However, on this occasion it was full of sausage meat with lovely flaky pastry and absolutely delicious. Just what a good sausage roll should be. It came with coleslaw, some salad and crisps and I enjoyed it immensely. I then had a lovely lemon cupcake and an equally lovely latte (in a tall glass the way a latte should be served but seldom are). All in all a delicious lunch and based on my experience I would definitely go there again if I was in Portlaoise.

26/08/2026: Nice little place with great coffee and pastries, but why ask for tip from customer for a takeaway ? I know it is up to the customer to tap the no tip button, but it puts them in an uncomfortable spot when the cashier is waiting for payment to complete. Most people would tip out of awkwardness and wouldn't want to return because they felt so.

11/08/2026: Good coffee and a snack for a break in down town of Portlaoise. The place is nice and if the weather is good, staying outside is great to feel city's vibe.

14/07/2026: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Brilliant traditional Irish pub with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff are absolutely amazing—friendly, attentive, and accommodating every step of the way, making sure everyone has a great experience. The pints are always top quality, and it's a fantastic place to relax with friends or enjoy some live music. The pub has plenty of character and makes both locals and visitors feel at home. Highly recommended if you're looking for an authentic Irish pub experience!

09/08/2026: Very good! Foods great and relaxed atmosphere

09/08/2026: Took 15 minutes for our order to be taken. We got chicken wings for a starter this took 20 minutes to come out. They were only alright. We ordered a burger and vol u vant for the main which took 40 minutes to come out. The burger was fine however the vol u vant was 17.50 for a main course and 10.50 for a starter. With the main course vol u vant I got one vol u vant. I would assume two as it is a main course and I assume the starter also only comes with one vol u vant so essentially I paid €7 for a small thing of chips. Food was bland. The cherry on top was the €4 charge for two glasses of miwadi. This alone will make me not return. It is beyond cheeky when you’re spending enough for bland over priced food. I said it to the girl when we were paying with and she said “oh the payments already gone through”. As if she couldn’t have refunded it. Will not return!
