Akayu in Portlaoise

Excellent food. Sushi, grill tuna delicious. Green curry, beef very flavoured. Nice and quaint.

Update: went here again and had a slightly different experience. Food was delicious, good value, staff were nice bar one. We had the unfortunate to deal with a tall Irish member of staff who was disinterested and short on the phone, clearly unhappy. We asked to move seats. Were told no. Not at issue. But the Irish dude gave a rude face to his coworker as if we couldn't see. Very good food and value. Staff were polite. Only issue is that the inside is a tad small, and part was being used for takeaways, which is okay of course. But it means the seating area was a bit limited and towards the front. Fantastic time though. Would recommend

We visit regularly. The food is standard for Japanese cuisine, everything is always fresh. The staff greets and sees you off with a smile, there are always a lot of people on holidays. I recommend.

We ordered sushi bento and tempura bento. The waiting time was not too long, and the food was quite tasty overall. However, when we asked the waitress how many pieces of sushi were included in the bento, she couldn’t answer. It was a bit surprising that she didn’t know this detail. Overall, a good place with decent food, but the staff could know the menu better.

What can I say. Top Class Japanese food. If you like Sushi. My family do but I don't. But I get their curry or hotplate dishes. Always excellent.

Very good Asian restaurant with truly delicious food. We ordered the sushi which was fresh and flavorful, the ramen rich and comforting, and the salmon skewers perfectly cooked. The bento box was also excellent and well-balanced. I’m giving 4 stars because the music ruined the atmosphere, and the menu design feels outdated and cheap, not matching the high quality of the food. Overall, great cuisine but the ambiance could be improved. Definitely will come back!

Flavorful, satisfying noodle plate with a nice mix of tender beef, crisp vegetables, and that savory, well‑seasoned punch you want from a stir‑fried noodle dish. Presentation is tidy and slightly upscale for a casual spot.

The ramen had a garlicky and punchy broth with generous portions on pork.
