The Make & Mark in Portlaoise

Amazing food and atmosphere, make a reservation in advance to make sure you get a table as it gets very busy.

Amazing food but tonight's service was not the best. We arrived to our reservation 15 minutes early and we were seated immediately. We felt forgotten about for almost a half an hour, until a gentleman next to us found a waitress and told her there was 3 tables waiting to place orders for a long time. We ordered drinks (and water) starters and mains, and we were waiting almost half an hour for water and starters. The mains were also very slow to arrive. With 2 of us on the table, one plate was cleared while the other was still mid way through the meal. One dessert arrived significantly earlier than the other. Overall disappointing experience.

I called on a Sunday at 12.30 with a mad request. I needed a table for 21 people and 2 babies for food. We were at the Irish Parachute club, where 5 of the lads were due to sky dive for Laois Suicide Prevention, but the skydive was cancelled due to weather. I rang the Make and Mark, fully expected to be told no, but the staff were just so kind about the situation and we were so lucky that they managed to find the room for us. All 23 of us had food, drinks and some had dessert and every single thing was absolutely perfect and the service was great as always. The lads are rebooked for the skydive on the 10th of October, so we hope to all be back in the Make and Mark afterwards to celebrate

The best sunday lunch we have had in the midlands area or anywhere in a long time (and we have tried a lot from birr to mullingar). Everything in make & mark was very tasty and fresh. We are from tullamore and have given up on sunday lunch in tullamore and surrounding areas as options are generally overcooked and sloppy and tasteless.

Went to the make and mark with my family of 17 people and had nothing but amazing service. Everyone really enjoyed all their starters, mains and desserts. Staff were so friendly and couldn’t do enough to help. The presentation of the food was fantastic and came out piping hot. Couldn’t ask for better. Edel was amazing and a real pleasure to talk to. I’m there a lot and will be coming back loads more. Well done make and mark you always do a fantastic job and have great service!!!

What a fantastic spot , right from the door to the table the staff were on point . What stood out for me is something that's not done today and it s great to see , a warm welcome with a smile brought to table and informed that the table is needed at a certain time and to add plenty of time too to enjoy a relaxed meal not rushed (great touch) The decor is nicely done , not like any other pub restaurants, very comfortable seating soft lighting very clean tables and great menu options for food and drink . The food was a shocker (in a good sense) to me as I was expecting proceeded chicken for the boneless wings , nope it was real chicken that was cooked to perfection what a great start , as for the main s that again was outstanding the chefs are a master of their trade . Fresh quality and plentiful that gave me my hunger satisfaction and bang for my buck too . But I do have to say the desert are nice but a bit on the sweet side for me , I did get chuckle when I saw the unicorn poop desert on the kids menu (yes you read that right ) The pints were even on point , and I definitely will be returning to tackle the cocktail menu what a great choice of drinks oh and the gin trees too , I truly understand why this establishment has an award and I wouldn't be shocked if they got more . Message to management- your team of bar and servers are fantastic as I said warm welcome with a smile and very knowledgeable on the menus and drinks . Thank you for giving me a great experience to which is hard to come by now a days , I have eaten in a lot of Pub /restaurants in portlaoise and I can soundly say this is one of the best to date .

The food and the service was outstanding. Best Sunday roast in portlaoise.Edel was so helpfull couldn’t fault it.5 stars👏👏👏👏

Family of 12, a lot of people to please and The Make and Mark bar is definitely 5 stars. The staff were so friendly and helpful from start to finish. We had a variety of delicious starters, mains and desserts. So tasty and portions were unreal. The refresher drinks hit the spot. We will definitely be back. Thanks a mill.
