What a wonderful place to stop on the Dublin ~ Galway ~ Dublin run. Really convenient for on and off the motorway too. An amazing toasted sandwich with a big mug of tea for just over €8 ! Staff very friendly and chatty, premises scrupulously clean. A few small tables and chairs outside, ideal for people watching on Moate's fascinating main street. Looks like it's popular with local schoolgoers too, always a good sign.

18/07/2025: Great atmosphere, delicious food, great drinks, and friendly personable service. Wife and I visited Athlone from the UK and were so glad we came here for lunch, highly recommend.
02/05/2025: We had lunch here last week, I had the beef. It was definitely the nicest beef I have ever tasted. So tender and tasty. I have had other meals here in the past and the food is always fabulous. Desserts are really good also. I could not find fault with anything in The Shack! Staff are super efficient and very friendly. Would definitely recommend it.

21/08/2025: A very nice atmosphere with soft lighting, typical Irish decor, Western-style doors, and carefully crafted dishes and presentation! Top notch! The food is delicious and very generous; we had a hard time finishing our dishes! The staff is welcoming, friendly, and full of humor! I recommend it if you're passing through!
