P EGAN BAR
Moate
13/07/2026: Iconic, 200+ year- old pub, the watering hole of celebrities and film stars over the decades (inc stars of "Dallas."). Welcoming host, professional, friendly service and great 'craic' to be had by all. Ideal for parties, events. It's like stepping back in time with the traditional pub atmosphere and old-fashioned Irish 'service with a smile.'
02/07/2026: Great pub, with a lovely and welcoming owner. Cheers 🍻

The Gap House
Moate
23/03/2026: We had a wonderful night in the Gap House for daddy’s 80th birthday, amazing atmosphere service and food thank you Denise Mary and Tracey xx
08/03/2026: This was a busy spot for Sunday lunch. Had Roast lamb and roast beef and two Thai curries. The Thai curries were too hot, too salty and bore no resemblance to the tastes that one would associate with a Thai curry. The ladies were too reluctant to make a big deal other than point out that it was not good. The lady on the staff said that it was unfortunate and that was it. No attempt to alleviate the situation with a coffee or free dessert, just tough luck that you didn't mention it in time and it could be swapped. This is not the way to win good reviews or build a reputation. In these days of online reviews the dissatisfied customer tells 1000 other people.

Supermac's
Moate
14/07/2026: Fast food shop. Quick and handy
08/07/2026: I stopped at Supermac’s in Moate for a quick bite while passing through, and I have to say the experience was excellent. The young lady at the counter was an absolute pleasure to deal with—extremely polite, friendly, and very patient when I needed a moment to transfer money after ordering.
I ordered a grilled chicken burger along with three tenders. The food was fresh, as I’ve come to expect from Supermac’s, and it was brought out to my table promptly.
The staff here really stood out for their attitude and level of service. It made a simple stop feel very welcoming. Both cash and card are accepted, which is always convenient

29/06/2026: Popped in for a pint on a random Wednesday afternoon after walking some of the old railwail trail. Beer garden out the back is one of the best I've seen. Must be brilliant when busy. Great that I could take the dog in with me.

The Shack
Moate
27/07/2025: Below average experience. The food is ok. Portion size is absolutely terrible. Been here a few times but the last time was the final straw.
Came here one day when it was busy, was just popping in with 3 friends to get a pint and be ok our way. There was a few people looking for seats so I approached the bar and asked the guy (mid 40’s?) about just sitting at the bar for a pint and he was absolutely foul mannered.
He said “why don’t you join the queue like everyone else trying to get a table in here”
I love locally and this bar/restaurant is quite close to me, many occasions I choose to go elsewhere for food and drinks. In this day and age that behaviour is unacceptable
That episode, along with the overpriced menu and small food portion sizes and that barman’s behaviour ultimately made my decision on the palace.
Couple weeks later “the shack” came up in conversation with different friends suggesting places to eat; I shut it down. Funnily enough one of the people in the group said that they ordered food weeks earlier and the same guy was intimidating to her because she didn’t eat her food and was pushing for answers, she was hungover and explained nothing was wrong with it.
Won’t be returning, and I’ll be telling others the same story.
18/07/2025: Great atmosphere, delicious food, great drinks, and friendly personable service. Wife and I visited Athlone from the UK and were so glad we came here for lunch, highly recommend.

Don's Bar
Moate
29/07/2026: Last Sunday evening, after Mayo’s unforgettable All-Ireland victory, myself and a few close friends stopped in Moate on our way home from Dublin.
We were eager to catch the Sunday Game, and with our timing bringing us into Moate at around 9.30, Don’s Bar was the first place we spotted showing it.
From the moment we walked through the door, the welcome from the staff and locals was incredible. It felt like walking into a surprise birthday party; the whole place rose to its feet and cheered Mayo’s victory.
For a few moments, they made us feel ten feet tall.
After such a momentous and emotional day, that welcome was every bit as special as the occasion itself and is something we will never forget.
A sincere thank you to everyone in Don’s Bar, Moate, for the warmth, kindness and generosity you showed us. It was a beautiful reminder of everything that is good about sport, community and the people of Ireland.

The Pantry Moate
Moate
27/08/2025: What a wonderful place to stop on the Dublin ~ Galway ~ Dublin run. Really convenient for on and off the motorway too.
An amazing toasted sandwich with a big mug of tea for just over €8 ! Staff very friendly and chatty, premises scrupulously clean. A few small tables and chairs outside, ideal for people watching on Moate's fascinating main street. Looks like it's popular with local schoolgoers too, always a good sign.
