The Shack in Athlone

We were wonderfully looked after by their attentive staff. A true hidden gem in Athlone, excellent food, cannot recommend the Steak Sambo enough, for people looking for an authentic “Irish Pub” feel, this definitely meets the criteria of even the most demanding traveller. We will definitely be coming here any time we are in Athlone. Superb staff and a warm welcome anytime.

We enjoyed a nice lunch at the shack pub on our way to Dublin. Lindsay, our waitress, was very friendly, warm and helpful, as was the rest of the staff we interacted with. Atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, with lots of neat decor to take in. Definitely a kid friendly place. Fish (haddock) and chips were tasty and I liked that they served regular peas vs the standard mushy ones.

A lovely, traditional Irish pub. They say it's the oldest in Ireland. The waiters are very friendly.

Everytime I visit here it gets better and better especially the staff in particular Lyndsay, the two Pauls and Nayem always so helpful and up for great crack. They go out of the way to get to know you and provide a great service of care.

Might not look much from outside but it's a really atmospheric place with friendly service and a great pint of Guinness. I hear the food is good too.

Met at the door by a rude lady with a top knot held in with a claw clip. We waited for a seat and she met us with a rude tone and face then said follow me and went up these steps. We had a buggy with our baby in it so I was unsure if we were meant to follow her or not. At this stage I’m upset and kind of want to leave but we drove all the way in to come so we stayed. All of the other servers are lovely and friendly they made sure everything was ok. Food was nice. I like that they have a juice and water station you can just help yourself. Just upsetting with that one lady who just ruined the rest of our time there to be honest, felt unwelcome with my baby.

Really quaint place. They have a lovely open air patio out back, too. Locals told us that lunch is excellent, but it's only served from 12-4pm. We went on a Sunday, and there was a line out the front door! The staff is great, the owner is hilarious, and the food is excellent. They did such a nice little presentation for my friend who was having a birthday that day. BTW I would eat the Potato & Chorizo Brazas dish by the gallon. If you like things a little spicy, don't miss it. The other photos are the fis & chips, the steak sandwich, & the brownie dessert. If they were open for dinner, we'd eat there OFTEN.

Great food large portions great value for money
