We visited The Thatch as part of a bus tour, so frankly I wasn’t expecting much, but I didn’t hear one complaint from the thirty of us. That’s really amazing when you think about it. The food was very good from the starters to the desserts, and was all served at a good timing. Go and enjoy!

Courtyard Cafe at Birr Castle

10/03/2026: Fantastic castle and grounds, great for exploring
24/02/2026: Outstanding historical site and home of Earls of Ross. Recommend half a day for this visit. The self guided museum tour is what we did and it was excellent. We went outside, walked around the gardens and saw the telescope. You need a few hours to spend in the gardens and you could do lunch there or bring a picnic. excellent educational value. The third Earl of Ross designed built and used the telescope and the fourth Earl of Ross invented the steam turbine which was transformative in th Industrial Revolution and to agriculture.
