The best restaurants in Killenard

11/07/2026: Have a yearly promise to ourselves to play The Heritage at least once, and we have had dinner in this establishment each visit. The first year, 2024 was excellent, great in every way, and we were looking forward to a repeat last year, but the facility seemed to be emerging from a rewiring exercise, with some issues to be resolved. Evening was less than we expected, but not enough to deter us from visiting again last month, but never again. Service was poor, stifling hot day, but our water jug was never replenished. No zero alcohol draft available, only one 330 ml can of Heineken in the fridge and two bottles of Moretti, for which I was charged €18! Some time after we placed our dinner order, we were told that neither pork dish was available, so I had to reselect my meal. All was delivered sometime later, and was pretty mediocre, with no visit from anyone to check if everything was okay. Listen, if you’re going to charge €80 for three ordinary main courses and three 330ml zero alcohol beers, you have to up your game. Suffice to say we won’t be risking a repeat performance!!

30/06/2026: We had dinner at The Thatch with family who were down from Dublin, and it was an excellent experience from start to finish. We enjoyed drinks in the bar beforehand, which had a lovely warm and welcoming atmosphere. The décor is cosy and inviting, the service was friendly and attentive, and the food was absolutely delicious. The homemade desserts were the perfect way to finish the meal and were enjoyed by everyone. We all left saying we'd definitely be back. A fantastic spot for a family get-together—highly recommended!
