Mickey Finn's
Redcross
23/08/2026: Friendly staff, in both the bar and restaurant. Wonderful choice of food- chose 2 starters, curried mussels and large duck spring roll in sauce, both delicious. Drinks and food served in bar as the restaurant was fully reserved but staff were excellent!
11/08/2026: My problem here lies with most Irish pubs and restaurants in Ireland. We could learn a thing or two off the French and probably most European countries.
We went into Mickey Finns from the campsite River Valley. River Valley inform you that you need to book in advance to be assured a table. Im only camping on my own with my son and as he makes friends and has his own agenda, I wait to catch him at a good time to go for dinner as i would prefere to suit him while he enjoys himself here. So we decided to nip in and see if they had any space at about 18 30 on a Monday. As I walked in i was approached by a waitress. I asked for a table for 2 and that we had no booking. She hummed and she hawed while she looked at about 8 empty spaces and said well we are booked up at the moment so do you want to take a seat outside?. Inside im laughing at the person running this place and all the money they are missing out on with all these empty seats and the chances of people not turning up to their bookings. But anyway I said yeh no problem and off we went to sit outside. The girl said she would bring me a menu. We sat outside and there was no sign of the girl with menus. Other waitresses served other customers without acknowledging us. We felt so unwelcome and had the dread of getting the staffs attention from the current service we were receiving. It was enough to make us walk away. Its not like they had 8 busy tables inside to deal with as they were empty. In France we have travelled to many campsites and everywhere you go, it is first come first served. You would never walk into a cafe, reteraunt or pub to a load of empty seats that you couldn't take. Places were busy on a loop .And its not as if Mickey Finns is fine dining either. Iv been to Mickey Finns plenty of times over the years and last year was the most recent and i have to say the food is literally just pub grub- basic and boring and top dollar 💲 like the rest of the country.
My last point is that family's want to be guaranteed a spot when they have loads of kids and I get that. But dictating to kids that they are having dinner at a certain time and dragging them away from play at a campsite because theres a rush to get to your booking is madness in my opinion. With what i witnessed with service your poor kids will be moaning with all the waiting sround theyl have to do Much better off with a BBQ i suppose or heading to the campout where the kids can still play. We went to the pizza takeaway next door. They were brilliant and don't require bookings 🤣. We won't be heading to Mickey Finns ever again and for the purpose of it, we won't be going to the campout again either as its run by Mickey Finns. Id rather travel to get food or live off pot noodle than give my money to that kind of crap.

Wicklow Brewery
Redcross
12/08/2026: A lovely pub with its own brewery and a very good menu, including vegan and vegetarian options. The stout and red ale were especially delicious. I'd gladly come back.

11/07/2024: This is our 2nd time here this week the atmosphere and drinks/snacks are great. Really good value and my family loved the local pub atmosphere. Everyone knows everyone
My daughter asked for extra side with her order and not a problem. Lovely little rural pub with good food.
They want to return before they leave next week
