Fabulous place for sushi, Asian dishes. My son, who swims on a regular basis, loves to recharge with a huge selection of sushi dishes. Food is top quality and reasonably priced. Well worth a visit.

First of all - review is about take-away order.
It's a pretty nice Sushi.
However, it is better to add €2-3 to the price instead of reducing the amount of filling in Sushi.
Previously there was less amount of rice and more filling.
You can see in the photos that the amount of rice/filling isn't balanced. Too much rice :(
However, still a great place to eat-in or order a takeaway.

Quality of the sushi wasn’t great. Imitation crab meat cheapens it and one piece of fish was not fresh. Unfortunately can no longer recommend.

Everything is nice, apart from Ramen. Have visited Akayu for a few times. Ramen is not authentic, the both is very plain. And the ramen egg was just simply as an boiled egg, it should be a marinated egg. Sushi was fresh, and quick served, good location in Portlaoise.
Update:
We visited Akayu recently as we have not been able to go in recent months .OMG, it’s as good if not better. Absence definitely makes the heart grow fonder. The sushi platter, chilli chicken and duck in hot herb sauce are outstanding.
As always, we received a warm welcome followed by friendly attentive service from Cindy and her team. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Love Akayu. It is our favourite restaurant in Portlaoise. Cindy and her team are excellent and the food is delicious. Highly recommend the sushi platter and also their hot herb sauce is excellent. Top class service and top class food.

Food is nice
Always like sushi there.
But after last visit there we said we won't coming back here again
I don't know what was wrong with staff , was sooo ignorant, not polite, specially woman who is manager or supervisor i dont know. If you have bad day or you dont like what type of people comes to your restaurant dont work this job then. Stay at home with your mood. Thats a place where you cant bring your mood with you.. thanks and see you never again
