Amethyst Bar in Keel-dooagh

Had a great dinner here during our time on Achill Island. They have a separate vegan menu with 4 mains to choose from. I had the omelette, which tasted surprisingly really good. The base was a mix of polenta, onion and potato and they used vegan cheese too, which for once tasted good! Only 4 stars for food because the soft drink we ordered came in a small glass and wasn’t very fizzy anymore.

*Amazing* food (if you don't get the Monkfish you're doing it wrong!) wonderful service. Fantastic atmosphere. Absolutely top shelf!

After a day at Keem beach this is a good option.

We had a lovely meal at The Amethyst Bar. The spare ribs were really tasty and the gin and tonics were great.

A top Restaurant on trip advisor for a reason. Id say I did extensive research on where to eat on Achill Island and I found many places but none quite like Amethyst bar. The atmosphere wasn’t anything crazy, nice interior and beautiful setting looking out over the ocean, but apart from that nothing crazy. However the food was amazing, have to say some if not the best Muscles I have ever had were at this restaurant. I ordered them as a starter and yet it felt like a main, whether it was meant to be shared im not sure but that’s what I call value for money. They muscles were very tender, juicy and full of that garlic and wine flavour. When you squeeze the lemon and place them on the Rye bread it is just perfection. From there I ordered Beer battered Cod with home made Chips, a simple yet great meal, couldn’t ask for me really. Can’t exactly remember what I paid for the meal but I feel like it was decent for the amount of food you get.

Are all Irish pubs the same? Maybe, but you can always do better, and that's exactly what "The Amethyst Bar" did. We were here for dinner, and everything was perfect.
