Sage

Westport
16/06/2025: There is always a good buzz in Sage. Eva is very welcoming, the staff is attentive, and Shtreyo's cuisine is inventive, offering choice Irish local ingredients prepared with Eastern European flair. Good selection of wines, including their native Bulgarian samplings. Our favourite restaurant in Westport.
29/05/2025: We had a really great meal while on our honeymoon in Westport recently. The menu is varied and very intriguing, with a great selection of vegetarian options which can be hard to come by in Ireland. The dishes were superb, with my particular favourite being the cod main course. The bread, sorbet and petits fours were lovely touches, and the staff were so friendly. Cannot recommend this place enough.

The West

Westport
11/07/2025: The food was excellent. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered. Exceeded expectations. Great service. Prime burger was terrific.
06/07/2025: I’ve been to The West many times and this is because the food is consistently good and the service excellent. The menu is varied and no matter what you get, you will love it. I particularly like the deep fried Brie for my starter. There are always specials as well. The owner is present and serving a lot which I think adds some extra to your visit.

Porter House

Westport
23/06/2025: Looking for the best Irish Pub? This is the place!
17/06/2025: I had the misfortune to call into this tavern last Tuesday evening. Comfortably my worst experience during an otherwise enjoyable trip to Westport. The lighting was very welcoming, but sadly the drunken shower of idiots sat to the left as we entered were not so. The group consisted of males of varying ages (and accents), but it was the young men within the group who were completely out of it. The band (who I would put money on will never return) were continually heckled, one of the young chaps (Johnny was his name) was barely able to stand - swaying around attempting to dance - knocking into people - all to the complete disinterest of the staff who continued to serve these individuals liquor. I said to my party upon entry that there would be a table getting knocked over before long - there was an absolute inevitability about it (several people seated nearby were holding drinks to their body rather than putting them on the table, and of course it didn't take long - young Johnny sending a table of drinks flying, with broken glass scattered everywhere. Incidentally the glass was still there as I left after my sole drink. This wasn't just embarrassing - it was dangerous. The band playing in the corner spoke to them on more than one occasion. Is it their job to have to do that? Should that not be down to the bar staff? In fact when the band stopped playing at one point due to this nonsense, I was certain they were going to get up and leave. I could see it. The band could see it. Everyone in the pub could see it. But the staff couldn't? It was only when the table of drinks went flying that a young male member of bar staff with a very poor haircut, intervened, by shepherding the drunkest member of the group out of the door. They ALL should have been leaving (probably a number of hours earlier, truth told). It didn't stop the recently removed young man from wandering back in on more than one occasion, to be met by rambunctious applause from his odious friends. It was also obvious to me that the young bar man tasked with escorting this young drunkard out of the pub seemed to find the entire situation amusing. Grinning like a Cheshire cat, he was. A Cheshire cat with an unforgivably appalling haircut, that would be. Perhaps you pay for what you get. Young bar staff may be cheap, but a couple of middle aged lads with a bit of presence about them and life experience, is absolutely the way to go. But the tourists will still flood in regardless, so who cares, eh? Until someone gets a broken shard of glass in the eye, or similar .. A horrendous experience from start to finish, and if any of the group involved read these comments, I hope in particular the older members in attendance (of which there were a couple) are suitably ashamed, in their sobriety. You should have been keeping these kids in check, not acting as cheerleaders and guffawing like donkeys at their cringeworthy behaviour. And as for the staff... Do yourself a favour if you are ever in Westport, do as Dione Warwick would surely advise, and 'walk on by'.

Mocha Beans Ballina

Ballina
29/06/2025: My girlfriend and myself went to Mocha Beans on Wednesday and it was unreal. The service and the food was the best we ever got. I even left a tip which I don't normally do. However, we returned today (Saturday) hoping for the same. We ordered exactly the same thing and I wanted to pay most of it in cash and the rest on card and I was bluntly told by a manager that they can't do two transactions. I thought "ok fair enough" and paid on my card. We took our seats and my mocha was brought down within 2 minutes and 5 mins later our food was brought down. The difference between the food and even the service between the 2 days was night and day. My BLT was nearly falling apart as if it was half-arsed put together and my girlfriend's wrap was more just warm than toasted. On Wednesday we were welcomed with open arms and made feel very comfortable. Today (Saturday) however, we didn't get a "hello how can I help?" or a "how are you?" or even a smile. Even though we ordered the same thing both days, I was charged an extra €2.50 which isn't here nor there but that's not the point. Overall, it is a lovely place but the difference between standards based on staff was hard to believe. This is most unfortunate because the food is a bit on the steep side price wise but it was worth it Wednesday.
15/04/2025: Mocha beans in Ballina is a really friendly quality coffee experience. The lady who prepared and served us couldn't have done more. Kay was cheerful, professional and more than happy to fulfill our order even though it deviated from the standard menu. The food was perfect and above the norm for similar places. Nice music and atmosphere too. Thank you.

The Creel

Westport
02/07/2025: This place is so cute. The kid friendliness was so great. The food was also amazing. I got the pancakes and they were so thick and fluffy! I do recommend
26/06/2025: We landed into The Creel right at the peak of lunchtime madness, fully expecting to be turned away or told to perch on a bench and pray. But no — the lovely waitress worked some kind of hospitality magic and squeezed us in. Saints in aprons, the whole lot of them. Every single staff member we encountered was absolutely lovely, with top-tier customer service and smiles so genuine I nearly cried into my napkin. Now, my friend came carb-loading for her gym session later that day, her bold shoulders graciously disguised under a classic pump cover. She absolutely demolished her food with grace and gusto while I waffled on about my life updates. So attentive was she to both her plate and my rambles, I nearly applauded. She even got a coffee with her meal AND for the road — that’s how good it was. As for me? I took a bold culinary risk and went for the Chicken Parmigiana, a dish I’d usually sidestep because tomatoes, in my view, are often just flung at food with reckless abandon. But I was wrong. So wrong. It was divine — balanced, comforting, and just what I didn’t know I needed. Life’s about risks, and this one paid off like a scratch card in Lidl. The chips? Beautifully crispy. The side salad? Actually seasoned and dressed, which tells you the kitchen really cares. (Speaking of dressing — unlike my friend who whipped off her pump cover mid-meal to flash the guns. We love confidence and chlorophyll.) The location is a solid 10/10 — you're a stone’s throw from Westport House, perfect for walking off your meal and your emotional baggage. And to top it off, I washed mine down with a gorgeous Irish-made pink lemonade that made me feel like I had my life together. Prices? More than reasonable for the quality you’re getting. Verdict? Go. Run, don’t walk. Maybe even do a bicep curl on the way.
