This is a proper old school pub. Definitely call in for a pint if you're visiting Athlone. Very nice staff and patrons.

The 2 man band that were playing were unbelievable, they could sing any song and make it sound excellent! They also interacted well with the crowd. I tried 2 different cocktails, and they were both delicious.

If you are looking for a cosy, homely pub this is exactly the place you need to go to. The staff are amazing (shout-out to Trish). If you're looking for a good cocktail she's your woman. The staff in this bar make you feel so welcome everytime and to make it even better the pints are unbelievable! I'll never come to Athlone without hitting Biddy O'Dowd's for one (or 10) 😂.

Cool pub, great example of the pub in the living room. Full of punters for Cheltenham, which is a testament to how high in esteem this pub is held in the town of Athlone. Had a pint of Biddys, a home branded lager, did the job

Nice cozy pub in the Middle of Athlone. Very good Guinness. Staff are always plesent Trish is a credit to the place. Great spot to watch sport with multiple T.V'S

13/05/2025: One of the best meals I have had in Ireland or, indeed, in Europe. 2 friends from Canada and ourselves: Starters: Scallops x2 and the most amazing wild mackerel rillette x2 Main course: Superbly cooked fresh cod x2, ossobucco x1 and polenta dish x1. Couldn't be faulted. Attentive service.

02/07/2025: One of the best meals i’ve had. Perfectly cooked, balanced flavors, good portion, a medley of tastitude and deliciousness. Truly a gem.
28/06/2025: I’ll be honest—when I first walked in, I didn’t have high expectations. It was a last-minute choice since everywhere else was fully booked, and I couldn’t help but wonder why this place still had space. But the food completely changed my mind. Really tasty, freshly made, and full of flavour. A great little spot that turned out to be much better than I expected. I’d definitely go back!
