Blake's Bar in Galway

Lovely place to eat and great staff

I have a coffee or a beverage at Blake's Bar sometimes and I genuinely do like the staff. The manager is a gentleman. I was having a bad day today and he gave me a nice cup of tea without charging me. I was actually very touched by his act of generosity, kindness, Human Decency and Respect that let's be fair, most or nearly all workers in restaurant/bars, even cafes do lack nowadays. This is what's missing in people today but it's nice to see these traits are still in some people. It costs nothing to be nice and treat someone with respect! I'm very happy and comfortable to come here for my cuppa coffee or pint every day or two. The manager along with naturally friendly, working hard staff (including the chefs and kitchen porters in which I have the odd chat with) are great overall. Atmosphere is dead on, friendly and cheerful.Its a more than a top place to dine out in. Child/family friendly but people can have the craic having a few pints/cocktails too. The banter! There is a healthy balance of the place being sophisticated yet fun! Overall it's my favorite place to chill and have my cuppa coffee in by far! I would recommend 100% to all people.

We went to Blake’s for our last lunch in Ireland today. Ulick the bartender reminded us of why we love to travel. He was so nice and funny and welcoming - like most people we have met in Ireland. Not to mention the fabulous food and drinks! ‘It’s the little things’ that make traveling to various countries and meeting new people so enjoyable.

We read about this online so had a lunch reservation. Just a block off the main shopping area, we were given our choice of eating in the bar or restaurant (same menu). We opted for the richly paneled bar area and were delighted with the atmosphere and friendliness of both the servers and Ulick O’Halloran..a golfer who shared his passion with us and invited us back to Galway to golf at his home course! Look for us next summer, Sir! Along with superior service and hospitality, the food was fresh from the sea! I enjoyed steamed mussels that were tender, aromatic, and perfectly prepared in a cream sauce. Hubby had the freshly caught cod, fried along with a side of fries. LOVED it! Highly recommend this great, local find.

Great service and delicious food. We visited during a finals match so the bar area was very busy but the dining room was a lot quieter which was nice. The server recommended the hake which was quite delicious and a good choice.

Clean, nice upscale Irish pub with great food. Seafood chowder was rich and creamy and delicious.

Great food and friendly service!

Thanks to a recommendation from our Rough Guide, we veered away from the swarms of tourists and popped in here for lunch. I enjoyed a seafood chowder and a bowl of steaming mussels and my husband hake filet, the dish of the day. The fish just needed a bit more flavour and the chowder a little less cream. Otherwise, good value, good servings and friendly service.
