Breen's Lobster Bar in Castletownbere

Despite the large crowd and without a reservation (which I would recommend), I got a table and, no joke, ate the best fish soup of my life. Friendly, fast service – I'll definitely be back sometime!

That… was awesome. Crab gratin… prawns, and the special haddock. Wow! Cash only; no cards.

What a quaint little place, however, don’t expect lobster because they don’t sell it. There is a story behind it so have someone tell you. Their cottage pie is amazing!! The staff is outstanding and honestly, kerion (?) is real easy on the eyes. 🫢

The best chowder, and very friendly hostess and staff. Highly recommend. Recommend making a reservation as it is very busy. We stopped twice for their chowder!

Been coming to Castletownbere since childhood and never been in Breens. Went in for the first time tonight. Phoned in the afternoon and they managed to get me a table booked even though they were really busy. Had a bit of a wait for our table when we got there due to to people before us arriving late but we didn't mind. Food was the best I'd had for a long time.

They are cash only policy and is clearly written in the entrance. There is a nearby ATM though which is good for us. We had 3 starters and craft bottled beer. The starters were top notch. I enjoyed the crab gratin, prawn chilli, and seafood chowder. They offer bread and butter before serving the food. Friendly staff and nice ambience.

Everything is homemade, and the atmosphere is family-friendly. The fish soup is delicious, with pollock and haddock as the main ingredients, seasoned with lemon zest. The crab gratin is equally good. The service is efficient and attentive. We'll be back...

Excellent bar restaurant for dinner, went there recently for a Valentine's dinner and it was fantastic. Delicious fresh food, friendly staff in particular Lucy who was our waitress and great variety on the menu. Really lovely spot, definitely recommend.
