Food was OK but nothing special, it’s a nice restaurant space located in the centre of monkstown village, but the athmosphere and staff lack the finesse required to elevate to of a fine dining restaurant. More so a family brasserie.
The French onion soup was disappointing, based on a beef consumme, the onion was was a dark stewed consistency.. I’ve had countless onion soups, it wouldnt rank favourably. The veal was good- tender and cooked well. My colleagues had the duck which they loved , but the real disappointment was the apple tart tatin… basically stewed apple, with a caramel type sauce, no pastry to speak off. Hard chunks… really not good, we left it behind after 1x taste. The pastry chef really needs a refresher course…
The main waitress was a nice person and chatty , but there we were more often topping up the wine despite 4x staff passing by our table every minute. Just lacking attention to detail I’m afraid. Appreciate it’s a hard time for restaurants but good service costs nothing.
€550+ bill for 4x incl winen& tip.
t thet level of spend, it’s an OK-ish from me..

Our first impression was that it didn't have the ambience of a fine dining restaurant.
Service was slow though the staff were very friendly and helpful. Just as we were expecting our starters to arrive we were informed that one of them was no longer available and another choice had to be made. The French onion soup was a glutinous mass and was lacking the appropriate flavour. On the other hand the Parfait was full of flavour and silky in texture and the St. Tola cheese was exceptionally good.
For main course the Scallops were amazing, both in flavour and presentation while the Navarin lamb was a little dry.
I had to request for our tap water to be refilled each time which was a bit disappointing.
For dessert the pavlova was more like 2 meringues sandwiched together with cream and slices of strawberries while the Maracaibo dark chocolate mousse was divine, full of flavour.
We were disappointed that the Rioja wine was not available despite being one of their more popular choices.
What atmosphere there was was ruined by a delivery of goods on a trolley down the main aisle of the restaurant soon after 10.30 pm.
