I was assisted by the staff at this restaurant when I was lost and stuck with a dead phone battery in the middle of the night. When nobody else was willing to help the waitress here kindly assisted me. I am grateful to her and the restaurant’s assistance and if you treat your patrons as well as you looked after me then the dining experience here must be fantastic. Thanks very, very much.

Everything was absolutely wonderful. Our waitress was very nice and the food came out in a timely fashion. And the food was delicious. The inside was great and the bathroom was top notch. Overall great experience.

Classy restaurant with a cozy atmosphere and excellent staff. We had a group dinner and enjoyed it immensely. We had fresh pasta, striploin steak, and vegan sorbet. Everything was delicious and prepared quickly.

Good food, wing are lovely if they're hot, not so much cold which is what we ended up with. Not suitable for families with small children, babies. ONLY 1 HIGHCHAIR in the whole place. ended up eating a cold dinner as we had to keep swapping over the baby. To Stressful, not worth it. Wouldnt go back.

Good food at a decent price. Service is very good at this light-filled restarant. Not the most exotic menu I've ever seen but the dishes are well-prepared and of very high quality. There is something for everyone on the menu. Highly recommended.

This gem of a caf is about 10 minutes walk from St. Stepen's Park but much closer to Number 31, where we stayed. It is a small cafe on a corner in what feels like a residential neighnorhood. While the menu is small, it offers something for everyone. We loved the Moroccan soup as a starter and the Sole as a main-enough to share for the two of us, along with wine and beer. If you look at a map. it may seem far but it was an easy walk and actually right on a city bus route. You will enjoy this neighnorhood gem.

Not a huge menu but the cocktail I had (gin & passion fruit) was quite tasty and the burger was very good with high quality beef and bun. Nothing too amazing, but a solid sit down dinner.

The Winding Stair

01/11/2024: Staff are lovely. Food was overpriced and limited choice. I left hungry.
29/10/2024: My wife and I had the pleasure of dining here in September, on the recommendation of a friend. It was truly one of the best meals we've ever had.

The Winding Stair was originally an independent bookshop and cafe in the 1970s and 1980s. Named after the Yeats poem, and in honour of its winding staircase, it is perfectly located, overlooking the river Liffey, with an iconic view of the Ha'penny bridge ( but you really need a window seat to enjoy it). It was later converted to a restaurant, but retains the feel of a literary setting. The bookshop is retained on the ground floor.
It's not fancy, but elegant casual dress is most appropriate. The menu has traditional offerings of good Irish food and seasonal, Irish produce; this is not a pub. For a starter, we shared the Potted Dingle Bay crab with pickled cucumber, toasted soda bread and organic leaves. We both ordered the traditional Doyle's hand-smoked haddock, poached in milk with onions and white cheddar mash — truly one of the best meals we've had. Their soda bread was the best we had in Dublin. It reminded us of the black canned bread we had as kids, but a whole lot better.

The staff was attentive and friendly, making us feel welcome and appreciated. They have a fully stocked bar and very good wines.

If you're looking for a memorable dining experience in Dublin, The Winding Stair is the place to go. Note: Get a reservation. We were a walk-in, the last ones, and had to promise to finish within 90 minutes. We saw many people turned away.
