A very enjoyable 2 rounds of golf in Carne. Really impressive links course in Belmullet which ticks all the boxes, scenery, golf, hospilitality and value. 2 great (but tough) rounds of golf but each hole holds a different view. Each one has a charm of its own and would be very tough if the winds were any stronger. Fabulous fairways, greens and tee boxes and a pleasure to play.
I have been lucky enough to play over 20 courses in Ireland over three trips there from the states. Carne is one of my favorite courses that I have played and that includes a few courses that have hosted the Irish Open. The people at Carne including Gerry and Fiona are some of the best people you will come in contact with anywhere in the world of golf. The course itself is a Hackett masterpiece, weaving through some of the best dunes in Ireland it feels like God laid out the course and Eddie just put in the tee boxes and greens. You have to play Carne if you are heading to Ireland for a golf trip, if you don't I promise that you will regret it.
Played this course on the 7th and 8th of September with good friends. What a beast of a course. Truly spectacular with ocean views and undulating fairways. A real challenge but fair with lots of blind greens. We played the full Atlantic dunes but only a portion of the Hackett. Would highly recommend this gem on the wild atlantic coast.
Had a terrific 27 holes at Carne. Challenging, beautiful and an overall wonderful experience. Service is top rate as staff very friendly and helpful. Big shout out to Gerry for making my sons and I feel so welcome.
Just getting ready for bed - back at the hotel. Played the full 27 today. Almost no wind & light cloud cover. Brushed swell lines pouring in-along the surrounding beaches all afternoon.
These are the most serious dunes I’ve golfed in Ireland & the architecture is exceptional. If you’re looking for top tier conditioning, proshop, dining, etc. then this is not for you. This course is for the serious, adventurous golfer only. If you favor pretentious golf & are incapable of finding the imagination that this place demands, you can look elsewhere.
I’ve honestly left a piece of my heart in those dunes. I’m certain to be dreaming of these scapes for some time, to come. Tip of the cap to Gerry, Olivia & young James for helping to make my visit into the enduring memory I’ll take away.
Cheers, Scott Saunders
