From arrival to finish, the hospitality and experience was superb.
What a wonderful time in between the dunes.

This was late June 2026. We were travelling around Ireland, passed several more famous golf courses on the way, but had set my heart on playing Carne. So glad I did. Firstly, I lucked out with the weather, it was fantastic with only a gentle breeze. Secondly, I had the course to myself. I played a Hackett / Wild Atlantic Dunes course. I loved every hole, took so many photos. Only lost one ball, but I imagine you could lose loads as finding the fairways is key. The course was in nice condition, dont expect lush perfect lies. The greens putted nicely. It has to be about my favourite course anywhere. Staff and members v friendly. Easily well worth the trip to get there.

Scenery and course design is second to none we had the misfortune to play it when the greens were sanded and poleforked which made the greens slow and bobbly but other than that amazing

Off the scale a total 11.
Naturally Wild and you are instantly lost in the towering dunes
Watching from the grass terrace as players tee off and then hit their second shot and disappear on the 1rst and 10th hole is absolutely perfect.
A lot of elevation change but grandpa will be happy carts are available for some.
The greens are so different from each other in shape and contour.
If you weren’t already thinking about golf, course architecture and the famous architect, you will be after
And thanks to my caddie Cillian for showing the way I wouldn’t wanna play without a guide there’s a lot of blind shots and hills to go over where you need someone to go up there and show you the line. And that’s some excess hiking if you gotta do it yourself.
And now with the new movie Finnegan’s foursome by ed burns coming out on Netflix everyone’s gonna get a glimpse of Carne on film!
Yeah, we’re here at the end of the rainbow and it takes some effort to get here but it’s a lot easier than climbing Mount Everest
A truly wonderful links. Played it twice (wild Atlantic Dunes and the Hackett course)
Staff in pro shop and restaurant very welcoming.
Could improve signage to help players find their way. Large outing in front of us played a few wrong holes and when we got to the 10th tee there was 12 players on tee box.

I’ve played at a lot of amazing golf courses. This cracked my Top 5, possibly Top 3. Unreal destination. Friendly staff, this is true Irish links golf on a stunning piece of property located at the edge of the earth. Would gladly play here again.

Carne is nothing short of the best course in the world imo. Also worth noting perhaps that golf is my life as a PGA pro and I've been fortunate to play most of the great courses in the world. Which should lend some credibility to this review. If your the soul searching golf type then Carne may just have the answers your looking for.
