Love this hotel.

Do not love this hotel anymore. Cost cutting evident all over, versus what was on offer... I can not get past the bar closing at 11.30 and no residents bar... No water in rooms... just not even 5 star adjacent, 4 would be a push.

The public areas were generally quiet cold
The staff in general were not very well trained . It is very expensive for what you get. I would not recommend it. It has lovely grounds . The hotel is very spread out. From the reception to the rooms is a great distance. For breakfast we had to go totally the opposite way and outside to another building for the breakfast. I had a knee replacement a few weeks ago and all this travelling back and forth did not help.

What a stunning hotel! 5 star for decor and staff friendliness. Unfortunately we were the only table taken in Kathleen restaurant on Friday lunchtime. And the place was freezing 🥶 the lovely server tried bringing in a heater but there were no suitable sockets to plug it in. Our food was very nice, but small portions and 5 star prices. We took coffee in the bar to defrost.

Lovely hotel, beautiful grounds. Food was good. Service was lacking- waited 25 mins for coffees to be served a non barista coffee for the not so cheap sum of almost €6. Frozen / reheated crossaints.
5 star hotel? Not for me. There’s no denying the historic beauty but quality not befitting of what you pay and obvious corners being cut

Had the most wonderful family trip here. Wonderful for kids, parent and grandparents. The service, food and over ambience was fantastic. A pleasure.

I really expected better of a five star, expensive hotel. We were greeted warmly, but they asked us about preferences and choices with food and activities but booked us in the opposite of what we had chosen. The spa was like going to a community pool, stepping over kids and their detritus to get to a locker room shared by the pool area, no robes or slippers, no pleasant waiting area or relaxing music. Just the noise of families splashing about. I was hoping for elegant and elevated but got what I would expect from a 3 star hotel. Furthermore, the more recent wing of the hotel was falling apart with leaks in the ceilings, mismatched bulbs with different color temperatures, a tempting bathtub that did not work, and dingy dark hallways. It really needs a good designer to come in and gut the place. As a Fairmont managed property, I thought we would be getting better.

Went for lunch yesterday, it was slightly disappointing. It tasted fine but they didn’t have oysters which are normally on the seafood platter, the salmon was dumped on the plate and we had to ask for lemon. Who serves a sea food platter without lemons? Anyways, it left a lot to be desired. We have stayed here before and loved it. This will not detour us from coming back.
